NoQuery DDoS "Protection"

Quotesecurity through obscurity

Description

This library embeds itself to linux servers by using the LD_PRELOAD environmental variable. It then checks all incoming packets, if the packet contains the q3 header followed by the query keywords getstatus or getinfo, then it simply drops the packet.

This causes your server not to respond to any master server queries or services like splatter ladder. All queries from applications such as HLSW will also be ignored. The attacker will therefore not be able to find out through these various utilities if the server is up.

As the server will not appear in the lists, or respond to any queries, it will not even show up on favourites. The only way to connect will be with:
/connect ip:port

Anderson on Intel's GameOn - Blaming the developers

image: intel_logo After previous articles once again Europe Team Dignitas is represented at Intel's GameOn website. This time with Estonia anderson (reload) speaking out what we all have in mind and posting comments on crossfire for a while on the portal where new games meet and developers should be interested in as well.

As critique on the games released in the past 2 years he is addressing the game developers for not coming up with anything worth a competitive game with a serious chance to reach a bright and long future - not a single release that has all the pc gamers need:
- competitive features
- dedicated servers
- mod & anti-cheat support
- etc.

Compared to previous beloved titles such as RtCW, Enemy Territory or Call of Duty 4 where you had have everything you need to come up with clan wars immediantly after it's release.

Quote by AndersonLet me illustrate. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the first major FPS title to introduce peer-to-peer matchmaking and that one change alone enflamed the PC community. In total, over 250 000 signatures were collected to replace the system and introduce dedicated servers. First Person Shooters (FPS) on the PC have generally always been based around dedicated servers and they form the backbone of many FPS communities. They allow users the freedom to control a variety of settings; different rule sets, player limits, custom maps, mods, etc. For me, it’s abundantly clear that, with peer-to-peer connections, competitive gaming cannot survive.

More Brink Footage

Perhaps a touch slow to the post, but GameTrailers have released some ingame Brink Footage this past week. The footage was from PAX 10 which was at the start of September. The game was available for public playing at EuroGamer this past weekend in London, Crossfires very own United Kingdom Waki was there and gave the game mixed feedback (I'm sure he'll go into more detail in the comments).

In this video you can see a couple of interesting points, firstly it looks like SplashDamage are moving further towards fortress functionality (where SD came from) with more integration of more complicated functionality in the classes and the use of deployables. There are appear to be two methods of reviving which come at either the slow speed or one revive looks instant. Aside from that there do appear to be a number of XBOX COD Player centric features such as golden gun etc. Other points, you can change classes by going to a command centers instantly rather than respawning, 40 second Dyno's & 20 second respawn time.

Watch GameTrailers footage of Brink

Brink is penciled in for a Q1 2011 release date.

image: bannervii

The matches are already scheduled, so the qualifiers should end tomorrow. So here we are, just 4 matches left and we will know the teams that will take first seed in the ESL Major Series VII Group Stage. Plenty of action tonight, plenty of action tomorrow. Don't miss it!

32 teams tried to qualify in the EMS Group Stage, only 16 were able to do so. Who are them and how are they seeded, you will see in just a few days. However, tonight, 4 teams will battle to get the first seed and instant acces to an easier group. Who are those teams? Check below.

Epsilon Returns

image: Epsilon

It was only a few months ago that Epsilon renewed their interest in W:ET. Unfortunately, for both parties, the partnership didn’t last long and ended on a sour note. Fortunately they have decided to renew their interest and faith in W:ET by snapping up another team. Epsilon hopes that with this pickup they will be around in Enemy Territory for the long run and enable them to cement their place in W:ET history alongside the likes of Team Dignitas.

The team that Epsilon has decided to add to their ranks is AEF runners up and joint EC XXI winners Impact Gaming. With the recent addition of “mAus” Impact looked to have solidified their lineup and plan on competing with the likes of Dignitas for that number one spot. We believe that in joining Epsilon we are now part of an organization that matches our own aspirations and ambitions and enables us to have a long term partnership with a prestigious, well established organization.
Epsilon currently boasts top teams in both COD4 and TF2. They believe that with the addition of Impact Gaming it enables them to reach the pinnacle of another game in eSports in the form of Enemy Territory.

image: game21129Both teams boast a nice mix of experience and ambition, with a few players playing since 2003 or earlier which should lead to a good game! If you want to watch a WTV game at all, it would be a good idea to watch this one - as this may well be the last top 1.4 match.

Want to watch WTV?[/u]
If you wish to watch WTV and you do not have a valid copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, do not worry! WTV does not require a valid CD-Key to watch these games so download the RTCW 1.4 pack made by Germany twister: HERE

How does WTV work? on WTV you log on to the a special server where you will watch a 'camera mans' point of view, someone who is logged in to fly around the server and POV's to hopefully give you the best view of the game. So you cannot spectate who you want when you want - but you will be watching the same thing that everyone else is - which has always added to the atmosphere of even the most boring games!

EMS VII: 3rd Seed

image: bannervii

The qualifiers are comming to an end, only 8 more matches to be played and we will know the teams that qualified, their seeding and pretty soon, the EMS VII Groups. 4 of those matches will be played tonight, all of them are Finals, and they are part of the Lower Brackets. Teams that will lose will get in the 3rd poule of seedings, that's why I know for sure that every team will perform even better than before in order to get in a higher poule!

A short announcement. Due to the Dignitas Invite Cup that will be played on Sunday, and because most of the teams that need to play the Winner Bracket Grand Final, are invited and will play in this Cup, we decided to extend our deadline for the Grand Final, to Monday, 4th of October. However, we advise team to schedule their match as soon as they find out their opponent.

The new OVERLOAd

image: logo

Last week Sainted announced that he had no motivation anymore to continue with OVERLOAd but felt it would be a waste to throw his work and the good name of the organisation away, the story of OVERLOAd should not be ended!

A fresh breeze

After the departure of Sainted the organisation was left unmanned and called for a replacement. Shortly after reading the news I messaged Sainted with my motivation to replace him in his role and continue the journey he once started. About half an hour later the deal was done, OVERLOAd has found itself a new manager. After I called my buddy saKen to tell him the news I found myself a companion, Clanbase and ESL accounts were made and the new OVERLOAd was set to go!

Starting from scratch

But what was left of OVERLOAd? After the Antwerp Esports Festival the players of the Enemy Territory team seperated ways and top Quakelive player Weird left the team together with Sainted, the team was left without players. Seeing as both saKen and I play W:ET in a rather succesful team that competed in various Clanbase Eurocups, ESL major series and several other prestigious tournaments the obvious choice of making ictus play under the wings of OVERLOAd was made.
