ESL Major Series Qualification Details

image: ems-banner

The ESL Major Series is incoming! With a total prizefund of 2,000 Euro, the ET: Quake Wars ESL Major Series will be one of the main events for all ET:QW teams and players this year. 24 of Europe's best teams will fight for the prizemoney in the coming weeks. Today we like to inform you about they way you can qualify for the upcoming tournament.

How to qualify for the EMS:

The winner of a running season is already qualified for the next EMS. Since this is the start of the EMS, there is no former champion. All 24 slots will be distributed to qualifier tournaments all over Europe. In order to participate for a certain country, the clan has to have at least 60% members with nationality of the country in which they want to qualify. 60% of their line-ups have to consist of members of this nationality during the qualifier just as in the EMS if the team qualifies.

Every national qualifier needs at least 4 teams, for countries with two slots the limit is set to 8. If a national qualifier does not have enough signups, the slot goes automatically to the international qualifier. For all teams which do not have enough clans in their country for an own qualifier or if a clan is too mixed up by different nationalities, there will be international qualifiers where all those teams can participate in.

The qualifiers are over and the groups have been made, now it's time for the first action in the EuroCup. But first let's have a look at the qualified teams and at the groups.

ESL announce new rules for ET:QW

After the first set of rules sparked a lot of controversy, the ESL has discussed the rules for Enemy Territory Quake Wars with players, admins and teams. More than 100 players contributed and what they have achieved is a simpler and slimmer rule set which should help those who are new to the game. In a nutshell, here are the new rules:

Vehicles
NO Aircrafts Allowed (does not include Icarus).
Maximum 1 Heavy Vehicle per team.
Maximum 1 Medium Vehicle per team.
Heavy Vehicles include: Cyclops, Desecrator and Titan.
Medium Vehicles include: Hog and Trojan APC.

New Heavy Vehicles cannot be used by either team once the final objective is active.

Weapons
Maximum 1 Sniper Rifle/RailGun per team.

Deployables
Maximum 1 of each turret per team (Anti Vehicle Turret / Anti Personel Turret / Artillery Interceptor Turret).
Maximum 1 artillery deployable per team.
NO Radar Allowed (includes the usage of 3rd Eye Camera).

A more detailed explanation as to why these rules were chosen can be found on the ESL page, where you can also discuss those rules.

Opening Cup

You can also sign up for the Opening Cups in 6on6 and 4on4 which have an unlimited number of slots. Details can be found in this news post.

CPH take on Dignitas in QW Thriller

Tonight sees the final of the QWL tournament with the biggest names in QW fighting it out once again. Dignitas and Copenhagen eSports have battled it out several times since the beta and demo but this will be the first time we see them in action in the full release of Quakewars.

Maps Area 22/Volcano - Decider: Island
Video Stream QuadV with TosspoT & Deman
Restrictions: 1 Field Ops deploy, 1 Sniper, 1 Radar, 1 Heavy vehicle. No Heavy on last stage. You can take heavy from what ever spawn u like (e.g. cyclops sewer and titan area). Vehicles inside are ok.

Copenhagen were the first side to beat Dignitas prior to their Quakecon glory in Dallas this summer. In total the teams have met 4 times with the scores now tied at 2 victories each so tonight is the decider between these two heavyweights!

Personally I cannot wait to see this game played on the full released version on open and fast maps. With the restrictions inplace I think we should really get a great idea of where Quakewars is and where its going.
