ID Software talk

Eurogamer has spoken with ID Softwares CEO Todd Hollenshead and he has confirmed the news posted recently that the next Wolfenstein will not be released in 2007.

Quote by HollensheadRaven is still developing it. I hope we'll be able to have some more news about the game within a reasonably short period of time. We made the announcement that the 360 was the primary development platform - that hasn't changed, but it is in development for the PC as well.

Wolfenstein is a game that's close to my heart. It was the first game that I played even before I came to work at id in 1996 as CEO, and I played it until I had motion-sickness from trying to find all the secrets behind the walls.

The new Wolfenstein is going to be a game that is different and unique in its own right, but still B.J. Blazkowicz in the Wolfenstein universe, with all the cool stuff and the unique stuff there. And hopefully we'll have some more details about how that is all going to work before too long

But Mr. Hollenshead has been a busy man, and has been speaking to GamesIndustry.biz about ID's next project which is going to be completely new that is being developed internally, on a brand new John Carmack engine!

QuoteIt is a new id brand with an all-new John Carmack engine and I think that when we show it to people, once again they'll see, just like they saw when we first showed Doom 3, that John Carmack still has a lot of magic left.

Our first task at id is as a single studio developer. That's really where everything spawns from. Because John Carmack is a programming genius, who in my opinion is unequalled in video games today, he makes a great technology that we can use across a wide range of applications and different games within our suite of franchises.

The new stuff that we're working on does have a brand new engine that John has been working on, actually is still working on today. We can’t really talk any details about it; we'll see about when the timing is right for an announcement. We like to be able to talk about stuff that we can show at the same time and it's not really ready to show yet

Busy times at ID Software! And busy times of course down at Splashdamage HQ! Eurogamer quote SplashDamage owner Locki being very vague about the release date for Quakewars stating simply "later this year".

TLR take on j52 in EC Classic!

The Clanbase Eurocup XV is proving to be compulsive viewing as reputations fall and grenades blow. So far we've seen nothing short of the best Eurocup yet and it aint over yet! Tonight its the winners bracket final and a battle between the two form teams in the game.

Time: 21.00 CET
ETTV: GamesTV.org
Shoutcast: Inside the Game

RESULT: Europe Junk52 4-2 Europe TLR

TLR come into the game as the higher seed and are fresh from their 4-2 victory over Dignitas. In earnest it should have been 4-0 and it is that fact that speaks so well for TLR. Right now their flair players are in the form of their lives and the squad is brimming with talent. After winning the CPC the side have kept their good form and taken it online, however there is ONE blemmish on that record and that is their opponents!

Junk52 beat TLR in the group stages with a resounding 4-0 drubbing of their opponents. Junk52 have infact not dropped a map in the entire tournament, including a 4-0 beating of Cadre. They are the form team, they are an unknown element who can realistically harbour hopes of winning Eurocup despite entering the tournament outside the top 4 seeds. The team haven't been seen for 2 weeks after some real life commitments, but you can bet they'll be back with a bang tonight

The two sides played eachother twice within a month not and both teams took a win each. That should be just the measure for how close this game is going to be! I caught up with the teams ahead of the match:

WSVG is smoking!

image: 55_bigThe WSVG have today announced that smoke grenades will be in the ruleset for the CoD2 tournament in Dallas. Smoke grenades had been removed from most European competitions since the shGopen in February. 32 teams will be battling it out for the games biggest prizepurse to date and anticipation is reaching fever pitch.

The tournament will be played with Max Rounds 12 on the usual competition standard maps of carentan, matmata, dawnville, burgundy and toujane. The tournament will be layed out with 32 teams playing in 8 groups of 4, each side will play eachother once. Teams will be forced adhere to communication restrictions that come into effect as soon you die.

In other WSVG news the show has today signed another deal with American broadcaster CBS, to show highlights of 4 events from the series
QuoteThe World Series of Video Games have renewed their relationship with broadcaster CBS by inking a new deal that will put four hours of extensive footage from this year's WSVG major circuits into the homes of more than 100 million people across the United States alone.

Brackets

After some delay, the brackets have finally been made. As announced earlier, clans were seeded for 4 different groups for the seeding (top (10 teams), high (14 teams), medium (14 teams) and low (14 teams)) and the brackets were made based on those groups. There will still be some changes in the brackets as few late dropouts still need to be replaced. However you can find the brackets from here

Schedule

Also as announced earlier, there will be two rounds played every week. Days to play are monday and thursday every week. You can schedule the time with your opponent, but not the date, as we're running the cup on very tight schedule to finish it in time. So the first round will already be played on next monday (4.6), second round on next thursday (7.6), and so on.

Maps

Maps are already decided for each round except for the final stages (WB final, LB final, and consolation final) where both teams can choose their own maps. If the match is even after both maps, decider will be played. Decider will be chosen by elimination after cointoss.

Maplist

* Battery
* Bremen
* Frostbite
* Radar
* Supply
* Sw_Goldrush_TE

Polar goes to theatre, junk52 theatre.

image: j52When Enemy Territory was still young and fresh, there was a strong German Enemy Territory team competing for the top under the Germany junk52 name. Years later, today actually, one of the most promising ET teams will play under the legendary Junk52 name once more. Polar eSports, with their ET team formerly known as team pi, and their FEAR team formerly known as Ta1nted philosophy will merge with the reborn Europe Junk52 organisation, securing a strong position in the Enemy Territory scene once more.

The Enemy Territory team have played particulary strong this season, moving to the winner bracket finals without dropping one map. They are guaranteed of a top 3 position but will ofcourse play at maximum performance to take down their opponents Europe The Last Resort in the winner bracket final, just like they did in the group stage.

Dignitas win on a bash!

In what can only be described as one of the greatest Call of Duty finals ever Dignitas have beaten team eSource on one of the most controversial decisions in the games history! It is non other than the grand final of the Intel Core 2 Extreme grand finals, and it was unforgetable!

After an absolutely beautiful game where Team eSource who were effectively playing with 4 players (Anarchy playing from the USA, who didnt frag for 17 rounds) the underdogs forced the pace with Dignitas. They went into the half with a 6-4 lead and despite being pegged back to 6-6 went back into the lead and were just 1 round away from victory when pulled back by the experienced Dignitas. Trainee was the one shining light in a game that was being dominated by te's Allan and Wolv. If you're looking for a man of the match, look no further than Wolv and Allan these two were beyond sexy.

The game went to overtime and Dignitas were again under the gun with eSource winning the first half 2-1. It was Mick who had been average at best throughout the game, coming up with big with some clutch moves to claw Dignitas back. If it werent for Dignitas lenghtly experience the game would have slipped away from them but it didnt and they tied the game in overtime.

Then after just one overtime the rules came into play and the two sides BASHED for £750. Yes, £750 seperates 1st place from 2nd place and Dignitas won the bash. This a decision that for a grand final has shocked the CoD scene to its core. For dignitas it smooths over the cracks of a performance not fit for WSVG, where the side are headed next month.

The debate will rage on as Dignitas and eSource were seperated by a decision without precident and an dismal ending to one of the best online finals ever.

Eurocup: Final Battles

image: PlayOffs

Last week two of ET's finest sides met face to face for one of the most epic battles the game has ever known. Of course I'm talking about Dignitas - TLR. It was a tense second round of the Eurocup Winner Brackets. Quite early, when some teams even had to play the first round. Polar had already taken down Insignia Cadre with a 4-0 win. They were the first team to qualify for the Winner Bracket Final. TLR followed as I already mentioned with a 4-2 win over Dignitas last Thursday.

image: POUB1

After beating Impact; Pro5 will take on Insignia Cadre tomorrow! With all the speculations about Keran and Shy being cheaters Pro5 are in a difficult position and maybe even facing a disqualification. Will Pro5 be able to beat Cadre and advance to the 3rd round of the Lower Brackets? Who knows?

Finland Cadre: Finland Twidi, Finland Cadein, Finland Squall, Finland Kmble, Finland Lettu, Finland Chmpp
Germany Pro5: Germany Butchji, Germany Drago, Germany Keran, Germany Hatred, Switzerland Gifty, Germany Ramin

90 Minutes to the match and I caught up with Cadre\Twidi. With Pro5 recently winning over a big name in the game: Impact, how does that make Twidi look at his chances for tonight?
Quote
Finland Cadre\Twidi

Well.. I'm not really worried about them winning Impact, but we haven't been praccing much lately so that might be a problem. Guess the hackers are in favour for this game, but we'll see how it goes.

- Rough words; could you shine your light over the whole situation with Shy_ and Keran?

A bit problematic situation, can't say any straight opinion if they should be banned or not. Shy_ isn't playing for them anymore tho as far as I know, so it's only keran left, but can't say, very hard situation.

- As you said Keran is still there and will be playing tonight. Any comment on that?

ClanBase hasn't banned him yet atleast so he is allowed to play tonight and there's nothing we can do about it. So we'll just play the game tonight normally and lets see how it goes then.

- Did you and your teammates for one moment think about not playing against P5?

Nah, didn't have that kind of thoughts, as I know they're still allowed to play and refusing to play wouldn't help at all.

- You're close to elimination now since it's the Lower Bracket, how are the nerves?

Not taking too much pressure and since we haven't prepared that well my hopes aren't that high, but I guess it should still be a pretty good game tonight so I'm just going to enjoy playing whether we lose or not.

- Finally, who's going to win this Eurocup?

Dignitas!

- Thank you for your time.

I also took some time with Pro5`Butchji. At the moment I caught up with him he was having a practice. I asked him if they were practicing new tactics to beat Cadre.
Quote
GermanyPro5`Butchji

Well we made new tactics when we recruited RamiN but today we tried to perfect them.

- Why is Keran still playing whilst _shy is kicked?

We replaced _shy with RamiN because _shy wasn't very motivated and not because of his little public adventure.

- As Bulld0g said it's a 90% chance that Keran will be banned and with that Pro5 might get disqualified. What will your reaction be towards Keran would this happen?

I still love him even though he's so dumb! <3

- And he's off to Practice again...

I asked some players who is going to win tonight.

Netherlands Lightning
Pro5

Germany Pumu
Pro5 - "cheaters always win!"

Belgium mAus
Dunno...

United Kingdom Sheep
Pro5 - "It's gonna be hard for Cadre without their rifle and in-game leader, and the recent addition of second/ramin to the pro5 lineup just adds to the blow, 4:2 to Pro5 is my guess."

Netherlands Wesbo
Pro5 - "You should ask someone else if you want a good prediction havent seen both play in ages though Pro5 recently beated Impact which should give them enough moral to win this one as well."

Malta toxic
Cadre - "cos MulSu isn't playing!"

United Kingdom eVo
Cadre - "I think they will win a clean 4:0 game"

Finland Decem
Pro5 - "I can see this going either way, gonna bet on the team with higher odds. If I have to give a score, I'd say 4-2 for P5."

Germany WhiningDJ / FlyingDJ
Pro5 - "ramiN is an excellent addition to the team, that's why!"

Netherlands NxM
Cadre - "!"

Now this is a big one. Two teams that already met in the Group Phase. They were both in Group C. After winning the CPC2 LAN and winning over Dignitas in the last Upper Bracket Round, TLR is the big favorite of the Eurocup. Though they lost to Junk52 (at that time still Polar) in the Group Phase with 4:0. I'm sure TLR is out on revenge. On the other hand we have Junk52 who didn't play very well at the CPC2 LAN. They changed their line-up just before the start of the Eurocup and they had succes. They fought themselves to this stage without losing one Round in this whole Eurocup. 4:0, 4:0, 1:0 and 4:0 were their scores. Now are they capable of beating the side of TLR again?

The same day we'll see a match in the Lower Brackets. Dignitas is taking on Fear Factory X-Fi. Is Dignitas recovered from their blow against TLR? Is Fear Factory X-Fi recovered from their inactivity? Although Dignitas is the favorite for this match, they shouldn't underestimate Fear Factory X-Fi. They can always strike at unexpected moments. Will it be Dignitas in the 3rd round of the Lower Brackets or is Fear Factory going to bring a surprise? We'll see...

Auxilia Returns and announces new Mainsponsor

image: aoor46cd6498nv5dj

After the Crossfire Prize Fight Challenge II the name United Kingdom AuxiliA should be known to everybody. The international ET Squad was sent to the LAN event and gained a lot of sympathies there, failed unlucky game wise though. After also dropping out of the ClanBase Eurocup XV they decided to call it a day.

Today AuxiliA is going to announce its second Enemy Territory squad, but this time it’s a German one. Nobody else than the old Wolfenstein & Enemy Territory clan “HighBot” is going to establish the basis for the new team.

United Kingdom Ben “Munchies” J. Russia Daniel “humM3L” M. & Germany Gero "geruMBa“ K. brought back life to this gaming project.
With the perfect support from AuxiliA & the new sponsor deal , the team is willing to attend all big upcoming LAN events. Like the C-MaxX Enlarged 2007 in Germany and the Crossfire Prizefight Challenge III.

The eXperience lan drops CoD2 from the tournament

Much to the discontent of some CoD2 clans, the-eXperience LAN removes its major CoD2 tournaments.

With the amount of lans this summer increasing very rapidly, the-eXperience LAN have removed their CoD2 tournament. This will come as a bit of an annoyance to CoD2 teams wanting to go, but luckily, the number of CoD2 tournaments in the summer is still pretty high.

This is the official press statement from the-eXperience:

QuoteWhen we started the planning of the-eXperience 2007 more than a year ago, the entire calendar was open through August 2007. We announced the date at an early stage this year to enable teams to schedule and to let other event arrangers have time to plan their events accordingly.

However first Wonderbase moved their event to the beginning of September. This was no problem for us, as this was one month after our event. Then Dataparty squeezed in their event to August 17th-19th between Wonderbase and the-eXperience 2007, putting pressure on the schedule. With 2 weeks between each event, this was going to be a hectic, but realistic Call of Duty 2 month.

A few hours ago, TEK9 then announced their summer event “Outpost on Fire 2” for July 27th-29th 2007, knowing how well booked the event calendar was for the Call of Duty 2 community in August. For some of the major teams, it would still be possible to attend all events, but for some they can’t. With one extra Call of Duty 2 it is our belief that the Call of Duty 2 event bubble has burst.

In Roskilde eSport we work for promoting eSport and having 4-5 Call of Duty 2 events within one month is in our opinion simply too unrealistic. We do not want to battle for gamers or work against other event arrangers, as we all have one goal – to boost eSport. At this stage it is our strong belief that Call of Duty 2 will be the big loser in this ongoing game between event arrangers of August 2007.

To avoid this prophecy, we sadly have to announce that we are removing Call of Duty 2 entirely from the-eXperience 2007 – hopefully once again making it possible for gamers to attend all the Call of Duty 2 events throughout the late summer of 2007. We wish the Call of Duty 2 community the best of luck and we hope to be back with the Call of Duty series in the future.

We have had a tremendously high sign-up rate for the QPAD: Counter-Strike:Source tournament, as well as so much publicity from various Counter-Strike:Source teams and news sites, which we are honoured to see. This development has placed us in a positive dilemma. We have really wanted to boost the tournament within Counter-Strike:Source, but never compromising on the quality of the event. We are planning the event of the year that teams will remember and we want to keep it this way. the-eXperience 2007 is made by gamers for gamers.

As an old saying stated: “a loss is someone else's gain”, and this is also true in regards of this decision.

To make up for this, the-eXperience have increased the number of CS:S signups by 8 increasing it to a 32-team competition; they have also increased the prize fund to a grand total of 10,000 Euros. This will come as good news to the CS:S community, but not so for the CoD2 community.
