Gamers Call for Tournament TV!

image: _41777606_cpltalks-ap203
Is the time upon us? Are companies like Inside The Game & Giga soon to hit the big stage? Is gaming soon to get its own television?
The BBC has reported in the past two days that infact, YES the time is now and video gaming is soon to hit our TV Screens in a big way!

In their first article Ian Hardy talks about the draw in the States in particular and the success of E3 2006.

QuoteTelevised computer game tournaments are a big draw in Korea, but elsewhere, coverage has so far been non-existent. In the US however, there are growing attempts to turn next generation video games into a bona fide TV spectator sport.

You can read it Here

Later that day The CPL announced that DirecTV an American can organisation would be covering CPL Winter LIVE, again published on the BBC.

QuoteUS satellite TV company DirecTV has signed a deal with the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) to broadcast a series of video game events.
Pro-players that qualify for the CPL's Winter tournament will be the first to have their battles broadcast to 15 million DirecTV subscribers.

Just last week the CPL agreed a sponsorship deal with Pizza Hut, aswell as Video Card giants ATi this week announcing it will sponsor both The CPL & The WSVG. With Sprite sponsoring the HHGL aswell, is gaming finally closing in on the promise land of "Mainstream"?

CoD2 EuroCup Players Send a Message to CB

image: COD2%20large%20logoIn an unprecedented move in ClanBase, the CoD2 EuroCup players have banded together to save their Cup Supervisors, Wabbit and Yami. They face removal from their positions after the shocking revelations that they were being blackmailed into making decisions by the Game Supervisor, Leon. After these accusations were made public on the Crossfire community site, Leon moved to ban crow from ClanBase and to strip Wabbit and Yami of their power. It was revelaed by an anonymous source within the ClanBase crew that, after the current EuroCup season, Leon will no longer allow Wabbit and Yami to run this cup.

The community was outraged and immediately steps were taken to counter this plan. The EuroCup players got together and decided to write an open letter to the highest admins in ClanBase, pleading to them to safeguard the futures of Wabbit and Yami. Support for the pair was overflowing and this only reaffirmed the fact that these are two of the most respected admins in the whole ClanBase system. Every team was quick to sign on and not only give their support for Wabbit and Yami, but also to share their contempt for the likes of Leon and Cryptic, the other supervisors who seem to bring nothing but trouble to this game.

Torspo on trial

Arni of GTV published a damning video of Finland Torspo in action this evening against Kujuneb in the Eurocup playoffs. The video raises the eyebrows of even the most cautious cheat finders and now the matter has been elevated above a mere journal here on crossfire and now is under investigation by Clanbase.

The Video Evidence:
- Arni's first Video
- Xionns attempt to discredit Arni's theory
- Braundorf Demo & Shoutcast
- FlyingDJ Video

The Audio Evidence
- iTG`TosspoT under investigation

Current Status from Adacore of Clanbase:

QuoteEvidence Inconclusive, No Action Taken

Clanbase Rule:

QuoteCheating (aimbot, wallhack, spiked models, ...): permanent ban for the player, removal of the clan from the cup or ladder the match was for.

Keep with crossfire as the story unfolds, this is not an open and shut case as the PB Screenshots are non existant. Additionally Clanbase Eurocup knockout stages this season are SINGLE elimination and thus if the decision is made along the same lines as the decision against Razz, then Demiurge will be removed from the competition. However, will compassion be shown by Kujuneb who thanked Demiurge for moving the match forward by 4 days?

CoD3 given another dimension by the Wii

Forget conventional aiming. Forget smooth tracking. Forget everything you've ever associated with a console shooter. The forthcoming Call of Duty 3 is soon to arrive on the Xbox360, PS3 and now the Nintendo Wii, in what is being described as a unique version of the game.

image: 150px-Wii_zapperUntil now, players have dealt out damage via their screen-centred crosshairs, with skill being based on control and precision more than any other factor. But prepare to rethink almost every aspect of the game when it is loaded onto the Wii, with its accelerometers and position-pointing device in the actual controller, players will instead shoot at the sensor bar in a manner similar to that which is experienced at the local games arcade,
a change which developers Treyarch are hoping will open up the market for shooters on consoles, a genre traditionally linked with the PC platform.

Although great efforts have been put in by Activision to keep the CoD3 project a secret one, including the forced removal of E3 footage from several websites, the game is expected to be released to coincide with the release with the Nintendo Wii, expected by many to arrive anytime in Q3/4 2006. Whenever its arrival however, the introduction of this revolutionary technique is sure to raise a few eyebrows from critics and fans alike.

Fresh developments from Crossfire towers

image: xfindent3cf This summer, the Electronic Sports League and Crossfire join forces to bring you a scorching program of competition and games designed to entertain and enthrall, with a string of events and coverage arriving soon in what promises to be one of the hottest seasons on record.

The ESL present their extensive 6on6, 3on3 and 1on1 cups with the industrious Germany chosen at the helm, all of which make use of the very latest Enemy Territory match configs, designed to be used exclusively by Crossfire and the ESL. This of course means the new configs will be eligable to be used immediately in the on-going King of the Hill competition, which pits together Enemy Territory's most illustrious clans. The configs make a number of significant, perhaps even controversial changes, changes which will be given extensive coverage with the introduction of ESL and Crossfire games premiering on GIGA and GIGAII, the German satallite and IPTV gaming network, as well as omni-present ETTV and written coverage. Look out for further developments and news as the stories break, only on Crossfire and ESL.

So what can we expect to see in the config changes? Namely:

[*] MaxRate IN 16000 - 25000
[*] MaxPackets IN 60 - 100
[*] HelmetProtection forced 0
[*] Mortar & MG removed

And before the coming launch of Crossfire v3, signs are also afoot which show the changes and progress being made centre-stage. Today, Wedneday June 14th marked the official welcoming of the Call of Duty community to Crossfire, kicking off with an absorbing and critically acclaimed article by the respected Ireland Liam "crow" Crowley entitled Another Clanbase Blunder, available right now nestled in the columns section. News spreads fast in this neck of the woods, and soon community sites Tek-9 & GotFrag were alive with the sound of Crossfire extending a welcoming arm.

Yet these are only small tasters to whet the appetite, with continual development everpresent as we approach the great point 3. Join us in these exciting times.

Razz Returns!

image: Clipboard05
He's probably one of the most dazzling and controversial players ET has had to date. Despite his young age he was able to show off his impressive skills, helping (among others) Germany Team-Helix and the UK national team to score some respectable results. He was called a clanhopper and a wannabe, but he was still able to outaim many of ET's key players.

His ET career came to a tragic end when chaoz and drago became suspicious during a prac they played. They took PB screenshots and posted them on xfire, razz was using RivaTuner to make leaves and bushes disappear. Triggering an iTG two hour special and news post which easily sparked 400+ comments, his eventual ban from CB was undoubtedly one of the most controversial things the ET community has seen in a long time and has in the end caused Germany hx to miss the EC playoffs.

Even though he is not a part of competitive ET anymore, United Kingdom razz has caused an xfire news post. Why is that? Well, his newest movie just got released.
Made by Estonia indu, they're both proud to present

razz vs. violence !

Featuring impressive frags of all sort, be they grenade, airstrike or simply SMG frags, the movie concentrates on the important thing - the kills. Luckily Estonia indu has decided not to bore us with an endless intro and a neverending outro but has cut those both parts extremely short. With the movie's length amounting to a total of 11 minutes and 19 seconds, at least 10 minutes are nothing but pure Enemy Territory action.

You can download the movie here here .

I caught up with razz and indu for two small interviews:
