What Hiddink did was marvelous and smart. He made his players run around the field and changing positions all the time because he knew that van Basten had specific positions for all players. You stick with him, you stick with that guy etc. The russian players switched positions so many times that it ended up with guys like Sneijder and van Persie in the defense positions and guys like Boularouz and Ooijer in offense positions.
I simply have to hand it to the russians for this marvelous smart play and a well deserved win.

He withdrew the 2nd yellow card but the reason is still unknown to me. Was simply a weird thing to see which I've never seen happen before in football.

How hard can it be to have a ref blow his whistle and in case of doubt have one or two other refs watch the footage and make a decision. The goal is made, the ppl cheer and a couple seconds later they stop cheering cuz they realise it's been denied because of offside.. same with video-footage imo. It only take a couple seconds to review the footage and make a decision according to rules.
think it would be better to just wait for like 20seconds to acknowledge a card or a goal. Like it doesnt matter that much for other decisions, so for goals and cards u can wait a few seconds before the ref confirms it

One had already been booked, and instead of booking the other, the ref issued the other with a "second yellow" followed by a red. Fortunately someone informed him and he retracted it though.
its very weird and pretty unclear to me why he took the yellow card back for the Russian player, that was the deciding moment in the match when i knew NL was gonna loose. The russians werent playing that good imo, NL let them play theyre game and we were just running around randomly. Shouldnt have brought in Affelay ( advocaatje anyone? ) and after he took the yellow card back, i sayd to my friends, this is gonna get us. 11 vs 10 wouldnt have ended like this and the referee clearly took away our win at that moment, although the russians deserved it more ( but did they? cause they missed an awfull lot of chances to take the win in regular time, and they didnt so that kinda rules out the deserved to win imo )

The reason why the ref took the yellow + red card back is because he trusted his linesman, who thought the ball was out. any action after this will be cancelled like they never happened, except things like 2 players fighting. This are the footballrules.
ofcourse the linesman wasn't correct but if you look at the fault the russian player commited you can see it wasn't even worth a yellow card. He almost didn't hit the player and there was nothing aggresive to it. But ofcourse it was a fault. So if you look at it it's pretty fair that the red card was taken back
