As we enter the knockout stages the stakes are high and the competition tense, just eight remain. ClanBase have now clarified a few things.

It’s been announced that the double elimination system will be used, the same as in previous seasons. This allows the big guns a second chance, as a loss simply drops them into the lower bracket where they can then progress through the later stages. The end goal a “Grand Final” between the winner of the “Winners Bracket Final” and the victor of the “Losers Bracket Final”. As accustom to this system, the clan coming from the losers bracket would then need to win twice to take the EuroCup top spot.

The official word from ClanBase is this:

“ClanBase Enemy Territory EuroCup is using the "double elimination" system in the playoffs this season to ensure a more exciting and fairer playoff structure. The advantages of double elimination are clear, effectively meaning that even if the eventual top teams meet early in the winners bracket they can still achieve their proper positions overall by progressing in the losers bracket. This does, however, alongside with the Christmas period, mean that ClanBase ET EuroCup is on a very tight schedule to get all the matches finished on time, so people look forward to many exciting highly skilled games coming up over the next few weeks.

Rules

ClanBase have now published a full set of rules for the playoff stages. Most importantly in my eyes the changes to the map choice rule. Although in the earlier rounds maps where pre-determined clans can now pick their “home map”. Though a delightful variation has been added, clans may not pick the same map three games on the bounce, they will be forced to chose a different map. This is in place to avoid a similar scenario as last year’s slog fest. Where teams barely varied from their chosen home map, the famous Oasis / Supplydepot2 combination a disheartening sight.
