Crossfire Returns!

After a dose of Swine Flu Crossfire has returned - but with a vintage database alas. Last week Crossfire's hard drive crashed and burned taking the site down and leaving us with only a backup as of March 2009 to relaunch the site from. Though we will attempt to recover a more recent version the likelihood is the past 6 months of Crossfire’s life did not happen! Another side-effect of this crash is the loss of all users’ profile images.

We can only apologise for how long it’s taken us to get the problem fixed, we've certainly learned a lesson or two as a result of the past week’s events and will come back stronger from it! To get a more hands on setup we've moved Crossfire onto Heaven Media's servers where we can better control situations like this.

In the coming month we'll be confirming the worst kept secret ever which is CC7 and the usual, who what where and when of the next Crossfire LAN. Lastly I'd like to thank Fusen, Corin and Steve for their many hours spent on reincarnating Crossfire, without whom the site would still be dead!

If you do notice any additional bugs now the site is back online, please report them in this forum post.

Regards

TosspoT

Wolfenstein MP news

image: wolfenstein_logoJust when the promotion of Activision's new title Wolfenstein started, by being scheduled for summer 2009, things now kick off with more and more game previews coming up. It's not of a big surprise that new information about the game slowly get
leaked and so we can now happily show you more exclusive multiplayer content.

When I was writing that column about a former Activision guy who leaked information regarding multiplayer gameplay and classes at Wolfenstein-Zone.com, we could'nt be too sure about him being a reliable source, as anyone could tell us how the MP "could" look like. Now it seems he is right about his (former) position, as he unveiled the first ever Wolfenstein MP screenshots.

The screenshots reveal not only the look of some maps but also the names and as well as that they lead to the conclusion that Wolfenstein will have NO vehicles, just because the maps do not seem to offer any space for them. The maps are mostly small and feature indoor environment just like RtCW did.

As the names of the leaked screenshots say, Wolfenstein will have the following multiplayer maps:

mp_bank
mp_canals
mp_chemical
mp_facility
mp_hospital
mp_manor
mp_rooftops
mp_tesla

It's still not sure from which state of the game development process those map screenshots are taken, hence there might be different maps in the final version, or some things may be left away or changed.

As all the screenshots are watermarked by idsoftware, we can assume them being legit and true content of the upcoming Wolfenstein game.

H2k back with zerender

image: 2iqk4z7In a night full of surprise regarding lineup changes within our scene, we see another one taking place at CC5 winning side Europe H2k Gaming. What at first sight may not be of much importance, is still liked by a large part of the community. When CF's number one console profi Germany zerender decided to stop playing ET competitively, he was not aware of the pressure a community can build up when it comes to players the pack just wants to see ;)

As a logical result of all the appeals or the will of destiny, the shortly missing part of the Crossfire Challenge 5 team of H2k Gaming now comes back to complete the team once again. Right at the beginning of EuroCup and the announcement of CC6 and a further ESL Major Series season, zerender will make his long awaited comeback. The starting six for H2k at CC6 will most probably be the following guys.
  • Germany sNoOp
  • Germany butchji
  • Germany zerender
  • Switzerland gifty
  • Poland dialer
  • Netherlands abort

If you doubt those players are enough there are Germany wEAK, Finland Matias and Austria potter still available for the team as backups. As H2k can now hopefully keep up the high level of teamplay they showed at CC5 easier, their contenders for being ET's number one in form of ButtonBashers, Mamut.si, SNB and Impact Gaming will need to put even more eagerness into the upcoming tournaments.

H2k player dialer gave me the following statement in which he's quoting ET killing machine H2k`butchji when he said "He couldn't see us failing anymore". As a link to a somewhat weaker performance against the up and coming team of SNB, he could still be right and we hope they can find back to former strength. Finally dialer wanted to greet the teams main supporter, biggest fangirl and top cheerleader Germany/Poland Queen.

ButtonBashers add olBaa

image: 20k2cl3Long term ET top team ButtonBashers today unveiled their latest recruitement to the public, as a new player in form of Finnish talent olBaa could be followed live on ETTV one hour ago in BB's ETMasters match against the just announced sYnck.Scythe squad.

Following mAus' step back from active gaming BB were forced to find a decent replacement. As of yet it seems they did the right decision with taking olBaa in, as he could impress with a solid performance against a strong sYnck.ET team tonight. Time will tell whether he can proof all critics wrong and show what he's made of at the Crossfire Challange 6 in may.

ButtonBashers captain Clown confirmed the latest addition to the team and gave me a short statement regarding the change.

Quote by bb/ClownWell, mAus decided he wants to focus on other things so we had to replace him with someone and that someone is olBaa! We are taking some risk, when we take a player that hasn't been on lan yet, but well, we will take that leap of faith together and see if we can fly!

TAG + sYnck = sYnck.Scythe!

The Estonian Counterstrike team nOu is no more. After two years of fighting under the banner of nOu, the team thought it was time for a new project. After some time of negotiating with the Estonian CS powerhouse sYnck, we've come to a final decision: nOu.Scythe is now known as sYnck.Scythe. The old CS team has been replaced and new sponsors will be announced soon.

With the new change also comes a complete overhaul. Everything that used to be named nOu.Scythe is now known as sYnck.Scythe, including our new IRC channel #sYnck. With Wolfenstein 2 hitting store shelves this summer, Synck.Scythe decided it was time to adopt an Enemy Territory team. TAG.et was founded in 2007 and has played at a high level ever since. Seeing their dedication and length of activity, we decided that they were an obvious choice. So without further ado I am hereby proud to present to the Wolfenstein community our new ET squad:

Netherlands Mathijs 'Lightning' Hoekstra
Netherlands Jay 'hayAa' Bonhof
Netherlands Harald 'Hope' Helder
Poland Kamil 'Krein' Maj
Estonia Mart 'Euruz' Madisso
United Kingdom Shaun 'med1xza' Harvey

The decision of the Chiefs

The time has come. The Chiefs of Cups made their decision belong to the 'removal case'. By now the CB NationsCup XII isn't frozen anymore.

Following, here is the statement of the Chiefs:

NationsCup Double Header

The ClanBase NationsCup returns to some semblance of normality tonight, with four of the lesser teams getting their night in the spotlight!

Pending the clarification of the rules by the ClanBase Chiefs, this first encounter has been given a renewed importance following the expulsion of the Croatian team. It’s the final match of Group D and will determine the three to progress to the playoff stages. Controversial playmaker Jakazc will lead his team out against humM3L’s Russia. Currently Slovenia sit bottom of the group, having already lost to both Israel and group leaders Germany. Anything but a two map victory for Slovenia tonight will see them drop out of the competition at this early stage.

Can Group D offer us a rare controversy free match? Find out tonight from 21:00!

Despite performing admirably in the 6 Nations Championship, Italy have struggled somewhat in the NationsCup thus far. Their one victory to date coming in a close clash with the Latvians, a nation whom should they win tonight, they’ll leap frog in the group standings. Fourth is a respectable position for a relatively tough group, close but not close enough! Whilst their playmates Romania are playing for little more than pride, languishing at the bottom of the table having yet to take a map in the competition thus far. They’re currently tied with the Hungarians for the dreaded wooden spoon award.

Can Romania finally take a map? Tune in from 21:30 CET!

The Crossfire Prediction League has picked up pace this week, with the number of contestants near doubling since last week! Belgium [uid=11781] is breaking away from the pack at the top of the table, with [uid=11431] and [uid=728] hanging on just three points and four points afar respectively. Meanwhile at the foot of the table Rhand and CAMELTOE share the spoils, having yet to get one prediction right!

Get your entry in for tonight’s matches below.

CoD wont be at CC6

Due to lack of signups the triggered tournaments for Call of Duty wont go ahead at CC6. This was expected hence why the triggered system was put in place, the CoD community is heavily divided right now and lacks both unity and support during its downtime. As a sign of the division, CoD2 actually got more signups than CoD4. This will not mean the end for CoD and the Challenge series, this division wont last forever and when its resolved (one would assume with the release of CoD6) CoD will return. All teams who paid via Paypal will get their money back during this week.

The event will be now souly ET, except for a losers tournament in RTCW on Sunday. The feedback from the earlier post was positive, and the RTCW tournament will be open to all attendants at the event, not only that but we're most likely going to be able to offer some small hardware prizes which I'm in negotiations of getting sponsored.

ESL GrandFinals tonight

image: wl_match_8

Many will still remember the first grand final of the ESL Winter League '08 which took place just 2 days ago.

Netherlands H2k, coming from the winner bracket, saved the first two points for their side in a stunning 3seconds-left-run on Würzburg Radar!
Though the match was not yet over. Finland MASCULINE MANS, aware of the fact they need to win four of the next 5 maps to place first, faced the facts and turned the game upside down. For now they kicked Netherlands H2k from their Winter League throne on which they sat from the very beginning.

If you want to see each teams Road to the Grandfinal again head over to the previous Newspost.

The second Grandfinal of the ESL Winter League Premier division will take place tonight at 21:00 CET.
Get yourself a place on one of the ETTV's and tune in at matchtime!

The CB NC XII Case

image: ncxiiblackbig2rv0

Currently the ClanBase Chief of Cup and his staff are looking into the situation about the three removed teams. At current I can not say anything of the outcome as we, the gamecrew, have offered our opinions and it is now on their hands.
I hope to keep you updated on any news regarding this and expect a response as soon as the end of the working week.
