Razer Copperhead[/u]
Overview
Wow what a nightmare of a release this mouse had advertised with it's firmware and 2000 DPI (oooh big numbers), apparently capable of 1000Hz stable an improved shape over the diamondback a firmware edition on the CD, which kills your mouse by setting the laser to low power. A complicated already firmware update process. This mouse just screams it's going to be trouble the thing out of the box is literally unusable skips like mad, the precision is non existant. So why stick with it? well as the title suggests there's more to it.
So after several firmwares and patches we began to get something usable (shame on razer really). 1000Hz stable, excellent tracking on the correct surface as laser mice tend to skip on almost anything but mats designed for them this means that on your Qpad when you move the mouse fast it will jump and go out of control (some claim it doesn't happen on their Qpad i've got the red thick version myself). The mouse not working everytime you rebooted your PC was thankfully fixed (a nightmare if you're trying to overclock at the time). But the futures bright well yes.
What seperates this mouse from the others is it really isn't a thing of great comfort the shape is awkward because of the ambidextrous design you're smallest finger needs to cave inwards to grip the mouse personally myself I can't hold the thing I can only grip it with 4 fingers on my right hand comfortably on my left hand I can use all 5 (very strange).
BUT, it is insanely accurate the thing is so fast and responsive it never leaves every action of yours it instantly responds it follows you're in control it's more a surgeons scalpel then an ergonomic object. If I were to plug in my MX518 set it to 500Hz and have a play around the first thing in my mind is how slow this mouse is it just doesn't react anywhere near as fast. The copperhead I believe in terms of accuracy is the best in the right situations of course (I use a razer mantis speed but more on mats later). The buttons are perfect they have that springy clicky feel to them are solid and you can rest your thumb over them without accidentally hitting them. The feet leave a little to be desired. Oh and the pulsating snake thing is very cool :P
The Negatives
So as I explained earlier, out of the packet this thing is useless. Once the firmware is updated it still has it's flaws! the side rails wear away very easily mine are peeling off as we speak but it's manageable.
The shape it's not perfect it's not exactly the pinnacle of comfort and the feet aren't as good as hyperlgides.
The scroll wheel is placed too far forward I don't have enourmas hands like a bunch of bananas but I find myself moving the scroll wheel with the tip of my finger.
An annoying other problem is negative acceleration this mouse has negative acceleration on all dpis it's very small but it's noticeable pick a point in a map move it slowly from one side of your mousemat then do it again fast you're not on the same point are you? negative acceleration simply. (Nothing so far can fix this but i've heard on direct input games it doesn't exist). Finally the drivers insist on having several processes, which if you like performance isn't the thing for you.
Conclusion
This is a strange mouse it's got big risks and big gains I use it myself right now although it's dieing (i've had it since release the right mouse button is recording double clicks at times sign of a dieing mouse a good smack on the table does solve this for a few hours). Once you get it up and running get a laser compatible mousepad things start moving even then it has it's flaws but the question is do these flaws override it's positives? well the answer is no it's still insanely accurate and it's worth a gamble even with all these problems I believe it's the best so i'm waiting on a "fixed" copperhead mouse.
