Quick summary of mousemats
There is a large choice of mousemats but if I were to start talking i'd go on forever here so to keep it simple i'll be sticking with cloth since hard mousemats wear the feet down too fast you loose consistency very quickly it's a different feel everyday, this doesn't happen with cloth.

Now with optical mice my choice is simply Qpad why? because it's very fast (someone like feur would have a much greater knowledge then me here but even he can appreciate that once you keep this thing clean with a microfibre cloth, the kind you get with glasses and damp it and wipe it stays in great condition). It's accurate, it can roll itself up it's everything you want really great tracking on Optical Mice.

Now with laser we've got a problem not all mice support this so we've heard of steelpad 5L maybe the razer mantis series control/speed. I myself use a razer mantis speed it's basically everglide titan but a laser edition it looks a lot cooler it tracks well with copperhead although copperhead very rarely can make a small jump. Although it's called speed it isn't anywhere near as fast as Qpad but it's solid and consistent with cleaning so moving on I don't want to dwell on this subject too long.

The end conclusion (finally!)
So in the end a mouse really does mean very little aim isn't everything in ET it's an important aspect and I believe a good player is an all round player jumping, aiming, thinking. So in the end finding something you're happy with is most important. When a journal crops up about mice hopefully they can be directed to this article rather then just saying what you have and claiming it's the best cause there is no "the best" mouse realistically no mouse is perfect in all aspects. Find something you like, be open minded to possible changes and lastly enjoy yourself as all the settings and hardware alone doesn't have the "perfect" combination other things can work.

The same applies with mousemats i'd suggest sticking to cloth for the reasons said above but there's a huge range out there maybe you'll find something perfect for you.

Mice Ratings:
1) Copperhead (big risks but advantages also)
2) Diamondback Plasma (solid not for everyone)
3) MX518 (all rounder doesn't excel anywhere though)
3) Diamondback Magma/Chameleon (very close with mx518)
5) MX510 (out dated stuff still reasonable)

I've yet to try G5 but with one button on the left this is a big turn off and I doubt it really can prove some huge increase in accuracy over MX518.

Mousemats:
Optical - Qpad
Laser - Razer Mantis Speed

So good luck with whatever you choose to buy! (Apologise for bad spelling and grammar)
