Match Fixing Galore in Starcraft

eSports has taken the next step to becoming a real sport recently with a Serie A style match fixing scandal causing rifts in the home of eSports, South Korea. Several leading players are rumoured to be involved in the scandal that is under investigation and dates back as far as 2006.

The jist appears that the trend started with retired pro players using their influence and contacts with active players to find out information, the leaking of replays and tactics to the opposition for example. The investigation has gone as far as trauling through phone and bank records to see where people are connected to one another. In Korea it is illegal to publically name the accused until they are guilty, so dont expect anything until a full case is heard and it looks unclear as to whether the Police rather than just the leagues and player association are even involved.

The news gets worse for young Koreans as the government is to pilot a gaming curfew scheme for people of school age, between the hours of 12pm to 8AM according the BBC. The article suggests that gaming accounts will be linked to national identity numbers and will be enforced by the games providers.

EMS Tonight: Impact Gaming vs TAG

image: esl_vi

Last night's epic match in the ClanBase EuroCup XXI was cancelled right at the last minute. Two of the best teams in the game, United Kingdom Impact Gaming and Europe EASY MODE, were set to take each other on fighting in the qualifying stages. Unfortunately, all was not as it seemed. United Kingdom Impact gaming were unaware of the match until the last minute, where United Kingdom eVo blamed Clanbase's schedule system for the confusion. Check out the comments here for more information.

CANCELLED: Impact Gaming vs EASY MODE

image: CB_EC_XXI

This Sunday, two teams with all too familiar lineups will compete in the ClanBase EuroCup XXI Qualifiers.

It's been a while since we've seen a lineup consisting of players with the highest reputable aim in the game. Europe SNB quit the ET scene shortly after Anonymous CC6 in order to move onto other games and other teams. Tonight, however, the team is back with a slight twist and a few new additions. Belgium perfo will be making a return to the ET scene after his break from the Crossfire LAN series. In addition, two new faces will be added to the lineup; powerhouse dutch aimers Netherlands teKoa and Netherlands Aza. Overall, the team know each others styles inside out so tactics shouldn't be too much of a problem for them.

On the other hand, we have United Kingdom Impact gaming. After the recent shock loss to the unprepared Europe nulli secundus, the team have hit rock bottom with the communities expectations stretching below the line. The loss of the talented rifle Switzerland gifty can partially be to blame, however problems with Malta Toxic's internet connection continued throughout the match with United Kingdom eVo having replacing him for one round during Radar. If Malta Toxic's internet connection suffers this Sunday, Netherlands m1lk will be the likely replacement. Switzerland gifty's return couldn't come any sooner for the United Kingdom Impact Gaming side.

EC Qualifiers are getting speedy - Speedlink vs 1stCav

Poland 1stCav, a lineup formed just after CiC7, had a good start in this season's EC qualifiers. After a 3-1 against their polish rivals diversus they will be able to participate in EC XXI. They are surely trying to challenge the presumably best polish team, Fear Factory X-Fi ?

It's the second offi under the name of Germany Team-SPEEDLINK for the former AoW guys. Their first qualifier was closer than expected. In the end they could win their decider quite comfortably against e-Wave. Considered as the best german team at the moment, the team is going for their best placement they could ever reach in an Eurocup.

One can expect a close match between Team-SPEEDLINK and 1stCav. A deciding map is not unlikely, so prepare for an interesting battle for Poule 4 !

Feel the SPEED - Speedlink's Community Contribution starts !

image: gewinnspiel

Community Contribution is very important, as the community makes the game what it actually is. Once done by blight, the ET community enjoyed and suffered from the effort the clan put in them. Now, as we got SPEEDLINK within our ranks, we can expect a lot community contribution in the future.

And it starts today. Enemy Territory is back alive after 2 years of hibernation and SPEEDLINK wants to push the game even more. A few projects are going on at the moment and one of them is Feel the SPEED. Its a monthly raffle where you can win hardware packages and more. Today you have to find something in the SPEEDLINK Gallery.

And the winner is ..

Germany Carlito. His Text has been the most convincing text in this competition. A little commitee has chosen him out of a final group of 5 people.

Do you wanna feel the speed ? Be sure to take part in the upcoming competition which is coming soon !

Aalborg - Ready for you!

Today one of Crossfire's finest members posted a email screendump from a conversation between him and one Gigantium's employees.

As seen almost everyone have started to think that this is a scam, but let me put it this way.
A half a year ago I had the vision to start a big ET LAN for the community, everything was in some sort of hurry that I didn't realize that people started to hate the idea that it was supposed to be BYOC.

I was out talking with almost every firms in Aalborg about supporting it with all different sorts of stuff, and finally I came across Matrix. I contacted them to see what it would cost to borrow it for a whole weekend for a LAN event, it ended up in almost 3500 € which was a pretty cheap price. The thing however was that the LAN venue was way to small, so I kinda had to put it on hold to find a better place. It was a really hard process as people started to loose the hope in it really coming to life one day, so I grouped up with some former staff members of The eXperience & SLAP to provide me with experience, we quickly managed to have the support from a place called UEG & Aalborg County that was offering us a decent amount of money to cover all the expensives. This was the deal. Therefore we never had some sort of sponsors as the people behind it was Aalborg itself to gather interest to the city.

After the reunion with the former experienced members I was put as a ET-chef to gather interest from the ET scene to the LAN. However this wasn't that easy, I quickly realised the hate toward ET and it's community from the former COD4 & CS Crew LAN members, so I always stayed in focus to be as positive as possible. Gigantium is a big place, and has different sort of departments, I was told that the deal with Gigantium was made regarding it being the host for the LAN and I was right away on writing some stuff about the LAN itself here on crossfire, where I promised that I will come up with a final annoucment about it on 1st of September, 2010.

University started and people started to from maybe 5-10 hours each week helping organizing the LAN to only 1-5 hours, I was however still working on getting all the details done as soon as possible. I managed to get arranged that afternoon trip to the city with the pubcrawl and club, and thought I might've had everything setteld regarding ET. However it turned out that Gigantium was misled by the dates where it was free, so we were offered a big LAN venue, with a small shop, sleeping hal, Internet connection and all the cables needed for about 10.000-12.000€. Some of the folks realised that the date was wrong and went to call me about it, but at that point it was already too late. I simply lost all the faith.

I started from the idea guy behind all to ending up as a simple ET organizor to now being the biggest idiot.

I am deeply sorry for all of this, I think I was just way to exicted about all of this.

Yes I am the one to blame but I am for sure not a scammer. When the moneysystem at BilletNET failed to respond to our deadline I was talking to Krosan about taking in the payments on his account as some sort of security to be 100% sure that nothing will happen to it and no one would get scammed. I hope Krosan can verify as this is true and was talked about 1-2 days before the offical annoucment.

All of this was never INTENDED as a scam, think about it.
Why would a scam people in a game I have played for almost 7 years?
Why would I scam people on a site where my IP ain't hidden?
Why would I scam people that I have played with ages?
Why would I scam on a site where most of them know my real identity?
Why would I scam when i post about 1 picture of myself each 2 weeks?

I have stepped down and won't be helping at all at this event, I however will still be playing this amazing beloved game with a deep sorrow of shyness & guilt. Already now I have been banned on almost every second mIRC channel.

Looks like times have changed, Kamz used to be the most hated now he's the most beloved I used to be a funny and chill guy that had too much passion for this game to now ending up as the most hated because of something I will regret for the rest of my gaming carrer.

Once again I'm sorry.

Adi.
