The teams have been approved and the brackets are now online. Games can start from tonight onwards (Lets aim to have the cup finished by next week). Can captains from each team please idle #esportsheaven. You may schedule matches yourselves but if you cause to much delay matches will be forced to a date by an admin.
If you need a server to play on let me know beforehand. If you do own your own server remember it’s a NO PUNKBUSTER cup so please disable it. So without further ado let the games commence!

Wolfenstein Gathers!

As always, when a new game comes out, there is a gather community to follow. Wolfenstein is no exception to this rule, and thus a gather community is born!

#Wolfenstein.Gather currently has over 200 (and counting) users, frequent gather matches, 3 private servers, 2 public servers, sponsorship from well-known companies & a ventrilo 3.0 100 slot server for all to use.

Becoming involved could really not be any easier! For those of you who already use IRC, just add #Wolfenstein.Gather to your perform list / channel favourites. For those of you who don't have IRC, you can use a simple web-based client such as this one.

New Yawn in the making?

With boozze member Belgium Sil working hard on getting Yawn! back up, PolandTrakos has begun betatesting his alternative, YAE - You Are Exposed. The site only supports Enemy Territory.

Everything is in the pre-beta stage so don't expect much :) The reason the beta is closed is because it is quite probable that still some serious errors are in the code and therefore instensive debugging output is enabled. That means that higher load could cause performance problems, and additionally finding anything in the output would became impossible. Therefore for now we need small load to test everything with it! But, fear not, we should expect opening quite soon!


Although the site is still beta it already has a nice collection of ips, etkeys and etproguids.So head over to YAE and give it a shot.

PBBans Closes *UPDATE*

After several years of providing anti-cheat support & banlists for several popular Punkbuster supported games, PBBans has called it quits. This comes on the heels of a recent denial of service attack on their site. Details are sketchy at this time as no official announcement has been made however the topic for their IRC channel states " PBBans 2003-2009 Farewell All--It has been a great ride!" Also after being asked how much money would fix it a top admin simply said " it's not just money anymore it's lack of time and willingness"

The loss of PBBans Master Player Index coupled with the recent loss of Yawn will make player tracking in ET increasingly difficult. Whether your a fan of PunkBuster or not this is truly a sad day for anticheat as PBBans provided a top notch service & will be missed by those who made use of it.

*UPDATE*

Over the last month PBBans has been hit with a number of DDoS attacks and we have been able to overcome them. On Aug 18, 2009 a massive DDoS attack hit our web server and could not be prevented with the counter-measures we previously employed. Our host will not do anything to block the attacks and even suggested that we turn our servers off.

After this occurred we decided to close our doors. There are many reasons behind this such as a higher cost for hosting, the lack of a new host that can provide the protection we require and finally the toll PBBans has played on our real lives.

After thinking about it overnight and the overwhelming messages from supporters who pleaded us not to close, we have decided to continue. We have found a new host that will provide the protection we require however it comes at a higher cost. Also the cost of shipping our servers is not a small one.

We need your help to keep us to keep PBBans online. Please donate using the button below.

WolfPro Progress

With the recent release of Wolfenstein many a player have been left somewhat disappointed with certain aspects of the game and would like to see changes made in order to put things right and also to make the suitable for competition use. As such Hannes, together with Syd and Chris have decided to launch WolfPro.

Together they have already changed the HUD of Wolfenstein so the information displayed is clearer to the player and easier to keep an eye on. Along with this map tweaks have already been implemented that should give FPS boosts to those with lesser hardware but to also de-clutter maps making easier to concentrate on the enemy. Additionally the personal wait time present in the game has been ditched and now a respawn system like that of ET /RTCW has taken its place.

Wolfenstein first patch and feedback

Wolfenstein recieved a release date patch which many of you may have installed already, it includes a few improvements on the build which shipped in the retail versions.

For those of you who are yet to install it a list of mirrors can be found on the official Wolfenstein forums

Sokal is also encouraging anyone who is dissapointed with the MP in the game to post their suggestions for future patches in this thread

Read on for the change log from the 1.1 patch
  • Fixed issue causing the Healing icon to remain after dying.
  • Sprint functionality has been modified so user can sprint longer, but has longer duration before being able to sprint again (pm_Stamina changed from 5 to 10, pm_StaminaThreshold changed from 1 to 5)
  • Quick voice chat can be binded to keys via the console (the new binds are _needEngineer, _needMedic, _needSoldier, _needHealth, _needAmmo)
  • Control options now feature separate binds for Use (resurrect, objectives) and Item (Ammo, Health, Satchel)
  • Reduced how far packs are thrown
  • Reduced how far grenades are thrown
  • Added ability to change cross hair appearance through the menu
  • Global chat now disables properly if disabled through the Server Launcher.
  • Fixed bug causing the grenade ammo indicator to reflect having one more grenade in your inventory.
  • Audio countdown has been readjusted
  • MP43 melee attack speed has been slightly decreased
  • Fixed issue causing the crouch icon to remain after dying

Dignitas returns to Wolfenstein

a team that sees the return of three Dignitas ET and ET:QW legends. Please welcome back Belgium Björn 'Bjorn' Rombaut, Estonia Hendrik 'RELOAd' Kinks and Slovenia Jaka 'JaKaZc' Kejzar!

Joining them are Germany Sebastian 'drago' Ohrmann and Slovenia Ivo 'darkman' Vidergar. We are more than confident that these five players will be among the best teams the game will see.

Wolfenstein multiplayer team axed on release day

On the same day that Activision releases its latest title in the Wolfenstein franchise, GamesIndustry.biz can confirm that a number of the team responsible for the multiplayer portion of the game have been laid off.

UK based Endrant Studios had been co-developing Wolfenstein with Raven Software, and it was the first title by the team since forming in July 2008.

"We have recently completed a development cycle and have regrettably been forced to make adjustments to staff and headcounts," said a spokesperson for the studio.

"Those affected are valued members of our team who have worked incredibly hard on our latest title. We hope that they land on their feet quickly."

The spokesperson could not specify the exact number of redundancies at the 17-man team due to ongoing efforts to secure other work.

Wolfenstein for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is released today in North America, and on Friday in Europe.

It is unclear why a number of employees working on Wolfenstein were axed - it could be for a number of reasons, possibly unrelated to the state of the game

Wolfenstein shipping as beta?

After today's early morning news, things were not looking good for Wolfenstein. Something just didn't sound right. However, today image: us Peter Sokal replied to Kendle's thread at Wolfenstein-Zone.com regarding "Wolf retail = Wolf beta".

It basically shows the final retail version is the exact same build as the version that was leaked. Far from the leak being a beta, or even a recent but not final build of the retail game, the leaked copy is the retail game, exactly as we're going to get it.

If that's the case my pre-order is cancelled as well. Not because I don't like the game but simply because it runs like a dog on my PC (even tho ET:QW ran perfectly OK).

I'd assumed the leak was an un-optimised console -> PC port, seeing as it has console like controls, jerky movement, mouse lag, and basically doesn't give the impression of being a finished game.

It seems image: us Peter Sokal has actually confirmed the retail version is the same as the beta (or leaked build), and a patch will be released tomorrow upgrading the shipped game to the retail version.

After following image: uk Endrant's employees on twitter, it seems they were extremely pushed for time. We can therefore assume image: uk Endrant have been working on Wolfenstein since 22nd July to meet the standard expected from the Wolfenstein fans (hopefully).
