CGS is Dead

The Championship Gaming Series has closed it's doors and the multimillion dollar organisation has left eSports. The organisation ran a televised gaming league featuring CS:S, FIFA, DOA4 & Forza using a unique team format to award winners rather than individual competitors for each game. The show aired in DirecTV, SKY & Eurosport 2 to name but a few of its broadcast partners. The CGS world finals had a $500,000 prizepurse and all of its players (over 100) were salaried to play.

The reasoning states:

QuoteWhile the concept was ahead of its time and we are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished, it became increasingly clear as this ambitious project evolved, that profitability was too far in the future for us to sustain operations in the interim.

CC5 Seeding tournaments

image: cc5_large
As promised for the Crossfire Challenge 5 we'll be running seeding tournaments to give the most accurate groups and seeds for the event. The goal is to use this tournament to directly place teams into their groups for the Crossfire event, however we don't want to actually determine winners of course!

So the two seeding tournaments will operate in a ONE day cup format that will stop short of crowning champions. There are pro's and con's to running a one day cup, the biggest con being 'what if our star player cannot make that 1 day', however the number of exams ongoing right now and the other tournaments that already live make running a longer event a bit of a minefield for that same reason. So we're of course going to have to be lenient with use of merc's but of course we will be looking at teams and saying well if you lose Ronner from your lineup you cannot replace him with mystic (or for CoD fans, you cannot replace Morg with someone who can shoot) for example.

So here are the dates for the tournaments (we've put them as close to the LAN as possible)

Enemy Territory - Sunday December 7th

Call of Duty 4 - Sunday November 30th

The exact bracket system designed by Adacore to give the most accurate reading will be posted in due course. However the goal is to 100% transparent so if Pink Gorillas lose both matches, then they're in the lowest seeding group. Put it in your diary!

On a side note, in the past week we've had a number of either late signups or 'oh shit my manager didnt pay' comments. This is not fatal, but it must be sorted out ASAP, contact me on either irc or via email to sort yourself out.

ClanBase releases a new config

ClanBase is proud to announce the release of a new set of configs today.
The main reason of this release is to fix some exploits of Enemy Territory servers. It includes the latest LUA module provided by the ETPro team.
We have noticed an increase number of players using some inadequate net settings and scripts to cause lag or simulate packet loss, thus we have decided to fix the net settings for all the players.
We are also including the new map hashes and scripts to fix some minor bugs and avoid some exploits.

Last but not least, I want to give a special thanks to the following: United States of America reyalP, Germany SPU, Germany eiM, Spain doneX, Malta Killerboy, Belgium Bartichello, Belgium overdrive, United States of America mortis, Australia DerSaidin and many others for their suggestions and support to make this config available.

You can download the configs here: Official ClanBase ET server config pack

Important Note:[/u]

This set of config are the official release from ClanBase Enemy Territory and must be used in all matches. All servers to be used for any match at ClanBase must be updated with this configs. All old configs are deprecated and must not be used anymore.

FF: Alive and k1cking!

image: banner_et_k1ck

Just like last season, the Poland Powerhouse Fear Factory has been raging over the EC. By an unfaithful turn of events they were expelled last season however, but this time all the signs are pointing in the good direction, that of the EC XVIII Finals. And that is not the only direction in which they pointed. Having been spotted several times claiming they didn't get enough support from their current organization, Fear Factory X-Fi, their succes in ET has been picked up by another legendary ET MGC!
It is Portugal k1ck eSports who have picked this team up for the remainder of the EC Season and after that hopefully many other events to come! It even meant for some of the players to return to their old roots, since they were in one of the first few ET teams that k1ck has already had. The Manager and Wrobel had the following to say:

Don Baker GCRC Week 4

Up until this point we've taken somewhat of a relaxed approach to teams getting their matches in. With CC5 right around the corner the time has come to apply some pressure. On the one hand I don't want to force a team to play a time & date that may not be optimal for them but at the same time we cannot have this drag on forever. The winners bracket is at a point where it can not advance until the losers bracket catches up.

We appreciate your cooperation in these matters & hope to get these matches moved along as quickly as possible. If any teams have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me as I'm easy to find.

EC XVIII: Showdown on Sunday!

image: ecplaypalhua7

After a break, your favorite News poster is back! And back with a vengeance, because this game has all the makings of a historic one! Sunday we will see the likes of the now-named Europe ButtonBashers (former TLR) play it out against Finland Vicious & Evil. Both teams already met before in the Don Baker Cup (News post here) the previous week, where Finland VAE surprisingly managed to take the win in front of all the ETTV viewers. Also, Europe ButtonBashers made another surprising step this week, by leaving the well known organization of United Kingdom TLR in favor of this new MGC for a better participation in future event for the team. Will these events influence this game on any level?
