New Crossfire Warning System

Since this morning when the new Warning System was introduced, there has been a flood of queries into what it actually is and what it does.
image: tornado_warning
The basic idea for the system is that in the past, the admins at Crossfire weren't able to easily track repetitive rule breakers very efficiently. It all had to be co-ordinated through word of mouth to one another. By introducing a purpose built warning system we are able to log who the trouble makers are and effectively administer bans when in the past they may have gotten away.

This is not all doom and gloom for users though as from now on you should not get banned for small instances of rule breaking, instead you will get an official automatic warning instead of a custom written PM from an admin or an immediate ban.

Social Punishment

As some people seem to think they want warnings, if you get more than 20 points your profile will no longer display your buddies, achievements, last visitors or your profile text.

How it works

Every user by default has 0 points. This is the ideal amount you should all aim for. 0 points mean you are the ideal user that doesn't break any rules.

With United States of America Quakecon 2008 approaching, all-eyes are on the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars tournaments but that could all change as now there are rumours about RTCW2 being unveiled.

Some one on the yoyogames.com forum managed to get his hands on "Game Informer" magazine(August issue) which features a "World Exclusive" first look at the new Wolfenstein game, and being a good fellow he scanned them for us all to stare at B. J. Blazkowicz in full iD Tech 4 engine glory.

Quote by Page #10Raven wouldn't say much about multiplayer, other than that there won't be co-op and that it'll follow in the footsteps of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

ESL clear up Promod controversy

SK-Gaming this week released a newspost this week stating that 'ESL demands halt promod progress' with regards to the development of Call of Duty 4 competition mod, Promod. However the post has sparked controversy in the community both for those who believed the post and those at ESL who were bemused by the story. To clarify the stories legitimacy TheRogue, Head Admin of the ESL has given Crossfire this statement;

Quote by TheRogueAs the article says, CoD4 admins from the ESL have been talking to the promod developer to give our input as we are of course interested in using the mod in our competitions. According to one of our senior CoD4 admins who have been involved in the talks, we have however not demanded a halt to the mod's progress, or demanded C4, claymores or the grenade launcher be reintroduced nor would we boycott the mod. We have asked for the ability to add our own rule files (i.e. for other gametypes), but we understand the primary goal of the mod is to be ready for the upcoming LANs. We believe the discussions so far have been good and look forward to being able to the use the mod in our competitions. Of course at the end of the day, it is up to the community what mod or rules are used.

So with some light coming through the dark the same eager anticipation remains about the mods release. The mod promises more features than the CoD series has seen before and is widely expected to be adopted for most major events.

SW Battery Hotfix

image: battery_beta2

Today I will start with a little point of view of myself, stating what I think about the Battery competition case.

I am off the opinion that good old Seawall Battery has always been a great map, even for competition. Todays playstyle with much spamm killed the first stage though. The etpromapscripts made the biggest step to get Battery back into competition with making the backdoor blowable and giving the whole back part a sense. But still because the forward beach part of the map is just to uneven the map has not been played in competitions.

My aim with SW Battery is and was to change this, the first stage, and to make it easier for Allies to capture that bunkerflag. I have not and will not change much inside because it simply is not needed.
But I must admit that some of the changes were too much and finally made it too easy for Allies to infiltrate. Also the bunkerstage got too uneven due to the ladder which was thought to be anti flag recap but gave Allies a too big advantage. Keep in mind due to this there can not be too many changes.

Read on to see what I changed back and added again or whats totaly new.

RtCW2 unveiled at E3?

image: 2jd3qt5As rumour has it, there is a high possibility for an announcement of Return to Castle Wolfenstein™'s sequel at next weeks E3 by id Software and Raven Software. Coverage partner for this years E3 exposition 'Spike-TV' stated in a press release that id and Raven software are planning to unveil new information regarding an upcoming gaming project. In detail they said:

Quote by Spike-TV"Geoff Keighley is on the E3 show floor to give Spike viewers the inside scoop on the sights and sounds of the show.
Also, tune in for more world exclusive surprises including something special from id Software and Raven Software"
[/b].

As Wolfenstein fans we of course hope for the long expected RtCW2. A project between Raven and id should even strengthen our hopes as RtCW2 was going to be produced by just these two companies.

Which gaming project is going to be introduced, is obviously not sure yet, only time can tell. Whether there is a totally new game to come, a further Quake or Doom sequel or even a mix of some game series (ala ET:QW) could only be seen next week in Los Angelos.

3 Teams 2 Finals and 1 Sun Burnt Caster

That's right ladies and gentleman tonight we have not 1 but 2 Cup Finals for your viewing pleasure in Call of Duty 4. First up is the much sought after ESL Masters Series Season II Cup Final which carries with it a prize of 1500€. Following on directly after that we have the ESL June Summer Cup Final for 1000€.

EMS II Finals - 20:00 CET 9th July - Speed-Link vs Fnatic

Germany Speed-Link reached the finals through the winner bracket without too many problems. They started in the playoffs with a close win against Belgium TEK9 (13-11) but after that they brushed aside United Kingdom Dignitas (13-7) and Belgium LowLandLions (13-6). However with a disapointing result at iPower 08 this weekend some have questioned their true capabilites on LAN. Personally I put it down to stage fright and expect to see more from them in the summer events. Online though you can't knock their results as they have taken on and beaten just about everyone of note in CoD4 to-date.

Sweden Fnatic have had to battle their way through the lower brackets since their loss to Belgium LowLandLions in double overtime 19-16. They have played well ever since though picking up wins against United Kingdom Dignitas (16-14), Belgium TEK9 (13-9) and finally Belgium LowLandLions in a revenge match which once again saw overtime 16-13 on Backlot. On LAN Fnatic would be strong favourites and will almost certainly be challenging this summer at AEF/TEX/I34 for 1st place. Online though they are only 50/50 at best against a strong on form Germany Speed-Link.

750€ - Germany Speed-Link
450€ - Sweden Fnatic
300€ - Belgium LowLandLions

ESL Summer Cup June Final - 21:00 CET 9th July - Speed-Link vs KomaCrew

Germany Speed-Link have blitzed through the Summer Cup without anyone being able to even put a dent in their armour. They brushed aside tonights opponents earlier on in the tournament without breaking a sweat on Backlot (13-8) and then took on a depleated Czech Republic eSuba who lacked both Czech Republic BLX and Czech Republic lucker due to holidays. They will be favourites tonight and will no doubt be on fine form with the EMS Finals played just before this game.

Netherlands KomaCrew met their match in Germany Speed-Link earlier on in the tournament however they were also using stand-in sniper Netherlands kajsk1ng for that game and he had never played on Backlot with KomaCrew. With a fairly successful LAN at iPower 08 representing Holland they managed 2nd place and picked up 5x 22" Monitors. With Netherlands kajsk1ng playing at the event for them they will no doubt be more of a challenge tonight than they were last week.

500€ - Germany Speed-Link
300€ - Netherlands KomaCrew
200€ - Czech Republic eSuba

You can watch both matches live on QuadV TV2 with Deman.
