Quakewars & RTCW2 Tidbits

image: quakecon2006_web_button
Quakecon 2006 has been a fantastic celebration of Quake and ET, but as we look towards the future the event has given us much optimism for the future.
I briefly caught up with ID CEO Todd Hollenshead and posed him with the request of any information on RTCW2, whether it was coming and such, and whilst I could not press him for anything new, he confirmed its still coming! Not only that but making reference to Activision publishing the game in his closing speach.

As for Quakewars, well the game is still attractive as ever and is a brilliant game to play and enjoy, no doubt this will be a huge hit. The vehicles are very well balanced against infantry, and thus the game does still have the potential to slip into the Wolfenstein mould.

idle win Quakecon 2006!

After a truley beautiful Quakecon 2006 it was idle that lived up to their name and reputation to take the gold and a check for $15,000.

Tournament Placings:

1st Estonia idle - $15,000
2nd Europe ATi Crossfire - $10,000
3rd Europe KiH - $5,000

Once the Americans were kicked outta the tournament games got truely exciting, with Crossfire vs KiH in both the winners bracket final and losers bracket final being the true pick of the bunch, but lets not forget radar in the grand final!

In the Quake 4 tournaments it was Sweden that set the pace, and in the words of United Kingdom TooGood "Ban swedes with railguns".

Crossfire Announces ATi: The Mystery Sponsor

image: 1Crossfire_H_cmyk_S%20bTM
London, England. August 5th 2006

www.crossfire.nu has today announced support from ATI, the world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics, PC platform technologies and digital media silicon solutions, to send the Crossfire Community Team to Dallas, Texas to compete in Quakecon 2006.

Quakecon, the leading tournament for Enemy Territory, is offering $30,000 in cash prizes for their tournament in Dallas this year. With Quakecon announced just 21 days prior to the tournament European teams attending the “SuperBowl” of their game was a distant dream. Crossfire, the home of Enemy Territory, decided it was time to get the community together and send the very best of the European scene go to Dallas and return with the money to reinvest in the community.

With Crossfires community donating one Euro each to help send the team to Dallas in a Blue Peter appeal style, they selected a team and practice was underway. As the community persevered together the cost kept escalating as time went by and all hopes of attending seemed distant. However, when ATI heard of the communities plight they stepped up to the plate to make sure Crossfire would be attending Quakecon this year. In a feat of fantastic charity, ATI have sent not only the 5 man allstar lineup but also a documentary team to record all the action of the team and the event.

Crossfire Director Stuart Saw had this say:

Quote“We live in a world where gaming is becoming a profession, but within Enemy Territory's small corner we have just one event a year if we are lucky.”

Quote“ATI has given not only the team, but the whole community and opportunity to experience the pro-gaming scene. With the money we will win we can run

events that will change the face of our community forever. Our communities members came together in its time of need, and now we have the newest member,

ATI. Together we've shown everyone what gaming is all about, and that is being apart of a community.”

Quakecon Gets Interesting !

In a little under seven hours the match we’ve all been waiting to see gets underway. EuroCup champions idle.ee take on Team Crossfire in the Winners Bracket Final. Both teams just one win away from the Grand Final, safe in the knowledge a victory ensures they’ll be going home with at least $10 000.

They’ve both breezed through the opening rounds, dominating American pickup clans. It wasn’t until the WB Semi Final that Quakecon threw up an interesting clash. ETTV crashes aside, this had everything you’d want from Quakecon. KiH did all they could, but Team Crossfire dug deep and pulled off a full hold in the deciding map sw_goldrush_te - defying their critics. Can they go one better and do the unthinkable?

Running simultaneously will be the penultimate round in the losers bracket. One final team is destined to go home empty handed.

wS are America’s last line of defence in preventing an all European 1, 2, 3. Can they emulate United 5’s outstanding performance last year and once again cause an upset? The stage is set for a rerun, having been knocked down into the losers bracket by favourites idle.ee - as Check6 did to United5. It’s a close run thing, but assuming KiH don’t underestimate their opponent they should come out on top.

image: rotttterrrdaaammmmWith all the hype happening in Dallas, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that Crossfire's very own LAN is still warming it's muscles for September. Let us hop back over the Atlanic to take a look at the goings-on in preperation for the Crossfire Eurolan.

Tonight saw the final match in Round 1 played between Russia tank thirty four and Poland dtekt - WoW. All hats should be taken off for t34 who struggled bravely against the Polish lineup but sadly; their fate was sealed. WoW secured a 4-0 and with it, a place in Round 2.

Round 2: Make or Break!
The second round of the online qualifiers will finally determine which of the 16 clans will be offered an invite to the event. If the first round is a way of seperating the useful from the useless, the second round is guaranteed to be a clash of all things wonderful. Find out who's up for a possible eviction inside.

Quakecon Day 1

After many "lame duck" games, which have gotten rid of the pub clans and are finally down to some true european high skillers, but not just any two euro teams, at 00:00 CET we have

going against each other. This will shove one of the three european teams attending quakecon into the loser bracket, although they will still have another chance to take second place. Never the less this will be a very important game for finding out what the most likely end rankings will be.

This should be a phenominal encounter that will be as mouthwatering as the tournament itself! Dont miss a click as this phenominal tournament takes shape.

The full sign ups and brackets for the Quakecon 2006 ET 5v5 tournament have been released.

As expected, the 3 European teams received high seedings. idle.ee will have a relatively clear route to the final, avoiding both the European teams. Whilst Team Crossfire and KiH, assuming they progress, will face one another in the Upper Bracket semi final. This allows for an all European top 3.

GamesTV.org will also 100% be providing ETTV, though due to limitations at Quakecons end won't be casting every match. There has been a huge effort by arni, zinx, bani, Lekdevil, skooli, reyalP and Angrykid to make ETTV a possibility, without them this would not have happened [no joke, today these guys put in 24 hours to make ETTV happen] and we owe a great deal of gratitude to them.
