Check 6 on the ropes!

Quakecon 2005 ET Winners and international gaming conglomerate Check 6 have been rocked by the departure of Ireland Crow from their squad under a very dark cloud.

TeK-9 broke the news that the Check 6 CoD 2 squad has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Outpost on Fire LAN next weekend and of crows departure. Stating that there were "internal problems" and that the whole scenario had left Crow saddened and unmotivated to continue playing Call of Duty 2 at the moment.

With the whole team not attending the event and it not being just Crow, it is a safe assumption that the travel arrangements for the event simply had not been made or booked as the remaining 4 players would likely have attended with a replacement. This instability comes after the team turned around their fortunes in Eurocup and qualified for the lan finals with impressive online victories over Dignitas and Speedlink.

Last month Check 6 were in a similar position when United States of America cha0ticz was left with an invite but not a ticket to the Quake 4 tournament at ESWC in Paris. Could Check 6 be about to run dry of the funds that have made them a recognised name in the gaming scene?

Quake 3 Selected for CPL World Season

image: cplwinter2006
Whilst being absolutely nothing to do with this site in general, The CPL has given hope to all gamers out there today with the surprise decision to revert from Quake 4 back to Quake 3.

In an astonishing vote of no confidence in iD's and Raven's latest offering, the people who brought you the Painkiller are now about to bring you Quake 3, arguably the most successful death match game to date.

To quote The CPL:

QuoteThis decision was made after the following votes were submitted:

The CPL tournament staff - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL world partners - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL 1v1 committee - 85% in favor of Quake 3
The gamers (that voted on the CPL poll) - 80% in favor of Quake 3
The decision to host Quake 3 competitions was made based on existing features in Quake 3 that will enable the CPL to focus on providing the best tournament experience for both competitors and spectators.

In the coming weeks ID software will release the latest of the Quake 4 patches, the one that has been dubbed as the way the game should have been released, adding many gameplay features found in...Quake 3.

So, what next? Will we seeing RTCW or ET replacing counterstrike? Its possibly not too far fetched as George of the CPL has once been quoted as saying it would be his dream to see RTCW at a CPL event.

LAN Update

Signups are still live and the deadline has been extended until Monday due to a delay in getting the Press Release up and a few finer points confirmed.

After numerous sugggestions we have decided to run online qualifiers for CoD2 ONLY. Many players/leaders suggested that the activity in the scene due to the time of the year made this a bad idea for ET, based on this we will only run the qualifers for CoD2 where this is less of an issue.

Signups are going well and the final invites and qualifiers will be taken via vote between the xfire site admins and lan admins.

Crossfire Announces Allstar Team!

After the successful completion of the of the Crossfire appeal and our mystery sponsor coming up to pay a huge amount of the money, we have set about picking a team. We were under huge time constraints and were unable to run a poll as both we and the sponsor needed the team ready for both practice and payment details.

We at Crossfire have selected the following roster:

Austria Potter
Estonia r3vers
Finland Sanctity
Germany Butchji
Austria Darky

The team has a mixture of Newschool and Oldschool, With 4 different Eurocup winners and proven talent!

Potter had this to say:

QuoteWe are really confident of success at Quakecon this year, I know Toss and the admin team have been searching for the best players and I honestly believe we have them here, Crossfire and its sponsor have made a dream come true.
The team will do the community proud, there were players like ferus, jauhis, mystic etc that the community mentioned but they werent available, people might be surprised by the inclusion of Darky, but he offers us an ingame leader and both Sanc and I have played with him and we know he will be perfect!

We did it...

Through a mystery sponsor Crossfire has raised the money to send its team to Quakecon. We would like to thank EVERYONE who donated and made this appeal a success, we're now going to make sure your money brings home the gold!

On a personal note, even though I had to wake up at 9AM, I am feeling absolute eurphoria. As a community we pulled together in our thousands and sent a message to all the other gamers out there, and I have grin from ear to ear!

This latest development may come at the expense of a community vote, whilst we apoligise we HAVE taken in all points of view expressed in the previous column, however we're obliged to submit our team as soon as humanly possible

Crossfire Allstar Team

image: qconxfire
With the Crossfire appeal still ongoing, preperations are underway to fly the flag for Europe! Not since 2002 has an American team won the Wolfenstein series tournament at Quakecon, and just because time and money are against us, dosent mean we will be beaten this year! With prizemoney on the line it is our duty to return home champions of the "Nvidia Championships".

The time has come to get the team prepared and for the event! In order to do so we must select our allstars, to do this there will be a partial voting system for the Crossfire users. There is a great amount of popularity politics involved within every thing online and so a 100% vote will cause issues, so Crossfire Admins will select 3 players for the team and will then offer a vote. A separate double vote for the remaining two players to complete the five man allstar lineup.
Should xfires first choice engineer be unavailable, the engineer role will go to the public vote also.

This thread is designed to open up the field to your opinions for who should be up for the public vote. The two invite positions will cover one field op and one medic. The vote on the remaining two players who will be generally medics.
The vote will go live on MONDAY with the announcement of the two invitations and the votes going live on the site.

Crossfire has been informed that the Estonian teams from last year were able to get their visa within 1 week and thus we will be offering the oppourtunity for them to compete in the vote.

The floor is open! Please make your recommendations and to players being listed please indicate if you are unavailable.

Quakecon....Who goes, You decide!

This is based on the pressumption (and conversation) that idle are attempting to attend Quakecon themselves.

GGL Writes Quakecon ET Preview!

image: gglxfireThe Global Gaming league has written a thrilling article, packed with 3 interviews about the upcoming Quakecon ET tournament.

Written by none other than ET Golden Boy Netherlands Remao "Cash" Tummers the article features lengthly interviews with Germany Urtier, United States of America Spartan and United Kingdom TosspoT.

QuoteThe "Wolfenstein" games have been heavily underrated ever since "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" was released. Despite being considered one of the toughest, yet most brilliant team-based games out there, it never hit it off as a full blown gaming discipline featured at the big gaming events around the world.

Except for one: QuakeCon. This year again an "Enemy Territory" tournament with $35,000 on the line will attract the very best of America and Europe to Dallas.
