ET:QW Paul Wedgwood (SD Founder) Interview

Paul "Locki" Wedgewood is the Lead Game Designer and Managing Director at Splash Damage. Who is also responsible for creating Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Paul had a short chat with "Firingsquad" about the upcoming Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

A welcome sign for all ET and RTCW enthusiasts comes in the shape of full mod support by Spashdamage and a vision for equality amongst the classes, with vehicles not dominating the battlefield.

Here’s a few extracts of interest:

QuoteETQW’s character class structure is similar to Wolf ET. Both the Strogg and GDF feature infiltration, assault, defence and support roles. However, a significant goal for the game is that the GDF and Strogg don’t just look different, but more importantly, play different. All of their tools, abilities, weapons and vehicles reflect their different technology and culture, so their asymmetric capabilities dictate different approaches to combat.

Smireboule Clean Up At GGL Golden Llamas

2005 was definitely the year of Smireboule

R3 ET Clan Trailer joined Gaming Royalty as the big winner at the GGL Golden Llamas earlier today. Smireboule Studios secured three major awards including Best Editing, Best Tech and Best Breakthrough - along with Best Wolfenstein.

The R3 ET Clan Trailer joins 4Kings Revolution as the most successful Wolfenstein movie at a trans-genre competition. The last time a Wolfenstein movie won big was in 2003 when Jethro Ryan “jrb” Brewin of Shaolin Productions won Best Editing, Best Presentation and Best Wolfenstein for 4Kings Revolutions.

Smireboule Studios created Smireboule CameTrace 3D v0.98 specifically for recamming in ET. Using this software they where able to create amazingly smooth and precise cams flowing through the map. This professional editing was enough to woo the judges ensuring R3 ET Clan Trailer won in four of it’s five nominated categories.

Of the seven other Wolfenstein movies nominated in six different categories not one took home a Golden Llama.

Invite ET-Cup Tonight

Monday saw all but one of the first group matches played as teams kicked off the Invite #ET-Cup. Team xtrazone seemingly the only clan not to have read the script, pulling off a surprise upset in Group D. Frostbite and sw_goldrush_te the maps as Round 1 got underway.

Resurrection of the elitists

Croatia is a small country with a big heritage. Did you know that Saint Jerome and Joseph Haydn were both Croats? Did you know the country boasts many Roman ruins? That for centuries Croatia successfully warred against Venice for control of the eastern Adriatic? No? Oh, okay.

One of ET’s oldest and respected clans recently underwent a resurrectoion under the supervision of clan leader Croatia FroZzeN. The ET section of this 5 year old multi-gaming clan was formed in May of 2004, reaching the lofty heights of 1st in the Croatian ladder and a respectable 3rd place finish in Division 2 Summercup. Since then they’ve been on a hiatus playing in various mix clans.

I asked frozz what he hoped to achieve in elite
Quoteelite is a successful Croatian multi-gaming clans since 2001, and this is fourth generation of elite in Enemy Territory. We’ve been actively recruiting and refining this line-up for a long time now and feel we’ve finally got the perfect blend. I hope we will give good fights in our upcoming matches and are preparing ourselves for the new ClanBase season and various 1-day-tournaments. We will be working hard in the hope that we will get an EC qualifier spot.

Their line-up is:

Croatia e^frozz
Croatia e^oblivion
Austria e^sick
Austria e^day
Finland e^Matias
Netherlands e^jackie

They’ve been active for over a month and are finally happy with their starting 6. Can this Croatian outfit impress the ClanBase admins enough in such a short space of time?

A journals not good enough for the first major production of 2006! Kris (and snoop) crave their moment in the lime light. Hours of work and dedication have been put in, to not only produce a great movie, but in practicing to create some amazing frags.

This aint no NetCoders production, there be no hacking here - simply a supernatural ability to shoot the head!

stronger than Helix !!!

ClanBase ladder matches, they're of no importance right? Played by mere peons not good enough for the Cups...well tonight Matthew, for a second time, let’s extinguish this myth.

stronger than hate must once again fight off the challengers as ClanBase European ladder leaders. Their opposition, a hard working blend of German efficiency confident after recent victories over sth. Team Helix are the only team to have beaten sth in a CB official since they formed back in March 2005.

Since the departure of mesQ1 and razz after their Eurocup escapades Team Helix have been quietly building up their new team, getting matches under their belt and shaking off the 2 week tag. Recently finishing 4th in last Sundays Get-Cup, being knocked out by Europe uQ Gaming in the quarter finals.

Whereas stronger than hate are a large caldron of Europe's best, a skilful mix led by self-pronounced publicity whore FroZzeN. Their roster boasts members from one4one, team-beta, idle.ee, uQ, Goliath and IDKFA to name but a few. But can several big names make a team? Tune in tonight at 21:00 CET to find out.
