BRINK invades European stores

image: brink_logo

Love it or hate it: BRINK has arrived in European stores today!

BRINK promises to blur the lines between offline and online gaming by having seamless transitions from single player matches with bots, to co-op with your buddies to fully fletched multi-player combat. The game features objective based game play, free of vehicles and with an added movement dynamic called SMART which will let you vault, slide and wall jump throughout the maps.

The game was developed by Splash Damage, studio behind award winning and whine receiving games Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. The publisher is Bethesda Softworks, known from The Elder Scrolls, Fallout and nowadays a sister company of id Software.

Until now the game has released mixed reviews, the game often getting crushed for a poor single player experience but receiving praise for it's movement system and team based multi-player.

You can get the game on Steam or your local video game shop.

E-Series is ready!

image: e-series_smallerIn just under a week’s time, six teams will make their way to Weesp in The Netherlands to take part in the first ever KTV E-Series for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. For those of you who are still not sure what this event is or what it’s about then allow me to recap the basics for you; E-Series is a LAN event run every few (or so) months by the Dutch online broadcasting company Kaos TV. Their most successful LAN events have been 1 day Call of Duty 4 events and this series continues. The guys at Kaos TV happily agreed to trial run an Enemy Territory tournament on the 15th of May, and should everything go to pLAN and the community show their hunger for me, then this will become a regular occurrence!

Aside from the obvious involvement from Kaos TV and myself, the most notable efforts you be passed over to Belgium Jere and, of course, Germany Felix. Jere has been working really hard to make teams sign up and pay, and has also corresponded with captains from each paid team in order to determine the map list for the event. Felix has played an extremely crucial part in the event actually going ahead after he, very kindly, paid for 2 teams to the event out of his own pocket! With those thank-yous said and done, I would now like to present to you the final information regarding the event!

Date: Sunday 15th May 2011
Location: Kaos Gaming Centre, Weesp, The Netherlands. Stichting Kaos Contingency
Pampuslaan 67

E-Series Schedule[/b] (click to expand)]
It’s in the best interest of all teams to be at the venue at 09:30 AM (this is when the doors open). The sooner you are there, the more time to you have to check in and set up. Match times are strict and the admin’s decision is final. Teams are not expected to be late for starting, the only time where a delay should have an impact on the schedule is due to a technical error and through no fault of a team or player. Of course, there are some situations which can occur such as illness or injury that may result in a team or player being late. Make an admin aware of this as soon as you can to keep them up to date. The admin’s decision is final on all accounts, please respect this.

09:30 – Kaos Gaming Centre doors open, allowing teams and players to check-in.

GamesTV.org unleashes Matchstatistics (Update)

image: 744_1266011481 Since the beginning of ETTV broadcasts we had to deal with the issue of broken ingame stats. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that.
However, Hannes provided us with a software that allows us to extract detailed matchinformation from ETTV demos. Since we have a bunch of those we put it to a good use and implemented support for it into our GTVd system.
This allows us to break down player and team performances beyond what endround-stats will tell you (that plaintext stuff in the server console when you finish a round).
To present all that data we had a look over to StatWhore and "borrowed" their layout aswell as their awards. To round off the stats we included the plaintext endround-stats from the server console aswell.

You will find out we modified the matchpages slightly to accommodate statistics. Stats for new matches will automatically be generated once they're finished, so they will be available about 2 minutes after the match ended. We did make sure to generate stats for all the matches that made it into our Top 10 Stats of all time and all matches of which we have official demos that have at least 1 star (about 3000 matches overall)!

The biggest restriction is this: We will not generate stats for 0-star matches. It's just not worth it for us and public interest should be rather minimal. You can still use StatWhore on your own matches if you're interested in the stats.
Also notice the disclaimer on the bottom of all stats pages: We usually do get accurate data, but there is some guessing involved and there are cases we can't handle (prime example is one player reconnecting with a new player-id) - we try our best though.

So check out this example, enjoy the new insight and don't go all statwhore on us.

Thanks to Netherlands h3ll and Netherlands soczol for getting this project back on track
(and don't whine about the squeezed layout, it's just too much information)

Update: Some values for 'Player Summary for the entire Match' were off. This is fixed now.

Team Dignitas welcomes back Night

image: digilogo_smallerToday we would like to welcome back a member of the Team Dignitas family! Our former Enemy Territory player Vaiko 'Night' Vainola is soon returning from his time in the Estonian army and will be joining back in our Enemy Territory squad in exactly three weeks.

Night was part of our lineup that won the Crossfire Intel Challenge 7 but unfortunately had to join the army shortly after that. Now, one year later, he is back to pick up his ingame captain role which he will do while playing the rifle class. He will also be attending the TLR lan event with us in July.

We have done an interview with Night, here is an extract:

Being inactive for a year must have taken its toll on your skills a bit, some might say. Are you confident that you will still perform at the same level as before?

Night: I have played couple of games over the last 6 months and I think I'm pretty far from my good days, but I guess when I get to play a little more often it shouldn't take too much time to get back in shape. I'm not gonna go crazy and play all the time in June, but on the days when I'm at home I'll play as much as possible to get the touch back. Hopefully it'll all work out fine.

You can find the whole interview here:

Test the new ET maps!

Finally, the first deadline arrived last night at 20:00 (BST)! I can confirm that there has been a total of 5 maps submitted for the competition and there's definitely potential for ET to see at least one new competitive map entering in to the map pool. As this is only the initial deadline, this period will be used for the map makers to receive feedback on their maps in order to improve them for the next and final deadline of June 7th 2011 at 20:00 (BST).

For those of you who aren't up to date on what this is all about can read the original news item here on Crossfire.nu. In short, the winner of this contest will receive €150 prize and have their map featured in the map pool at my LAN event in July.

Update: Testserver rotations are now functional again!

ET Cast - Nationscup Special

image: banner_1

This is the second edition of ET Cast, covering all news since the last update. With a slight change in how and when we cover items, we will release an episode of ET Cast after a major event or announcement on hopefully at least a monthly basis.

ET Cast Covers the following in this update:
  • Scene News
  • Team News
  • Competition Updates
  • ET Cast Top10 March
  • Fragmovie of the Month March

This episode covers as much as we could since the last update, including the Clanbase Nationscup XIV, 3on3 Nationscup as well as major team news and high skilled competitions.

Mayday ET Matchups

image: maydaybanner

One week later after no doubt mass amounts of chocolate consumption we are faced with yet another Sunday of Enemy Territory! In the absence of morris dancing and maypoles, crossfire does have the Clanbase Eurocup and the YCN Spring Challenge for entertainment on this traditional celtic holiday.

In Eurocup Netherlands OVERLOAd are fighting for a space in the playoffs with their final group stage game against the group C favorites Europe WinFakt. After a loss to Rockit, it looks probable that OVERLOAd need to pull out an upset here if they want to continue their EC campaign unless the germans have trouble against UVGaming. With adlernest & supply being the arena for the 3rd matchweek they could well push this to a three map spectacle, but WinFakt will definitely want to end this with a clean 4-0 victory.

Later in the YCN Spring Challenge United Kingdom Next Evolution ESC square up to Denmark NORDIC-eSport in the winnerbracket. NEVO recently suffered what the gbooky odds would consider an upset defeat to the finnish side red as a beetroot in Eurocup. Tomorrow a victory is cruicial to continue in Eurocup, and a loss today would certainly not improve morale. NEVO need to get their bearings and get a positive result here but NORDIC are coming to this round after a comfortable 4-0 victory against K1ck so it isn't going to be easy.

I'll be bringing both these games to you live with #gamestv.org Shoutcasting. You can find the lineups and more details after the jump!
