MLG Providence SCII Lineup Announced

image: mlg_logoimage: nybvawMLG Providence is less than a week away and the full StarCraft II lineup has recently been announced. The Pro Circuit returns to United States of America Rhode Island for the sixth and final event of the season. The previous instalments of the MLG Pro-Circuit in 2011 have each delivered 3 days of memorable StarCraft action. The year began in Dallas at the beginning of April with Sweden NaNiwa taking home the Gold. The first Koreans to enter MLG via the MLG/GSL exchange program were highly successful, with Korea, Republic of MMA winning in Columbus in June. Further Korean victories followed with Korea, Republic of MVP winning in Anaheim in July and Korea, Republic of Bomber winning at Raleigh in August. Fan-favourite Protoss Canada HuK ended the run of Korean Terran victories as he swept the field at MLG Orlando just last month. There really are no notable absentees from the pool of invited players to MLG Providence - how do you pick a winner? Winners of all of the previous MLG's are present and so are the two (recognised) best players in the world right now: Korea, Republic of MVP & Korea, Republic of Nestea.

Steam database hacked

image: 2mhzzg0image: oszjarThe online distribution and game service Steam has announced that it's forums, servers and database had all been hacked. The news broke yesterday afternoon after Valve confirmed spreading rumours that their users information was in jeopardy. This is the second high profile security breach in recent memory, following the continued hacking of Playstation network. Many a PC gamer turned their noses up at the difficulties suffered by their console-gamer brethren but unfortunately it is now our turn to up our security levels. It was originally thought that only their forums were breached but a public statement from CEO Gabe Newell stated:

Quote by Gabe NewellWe learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information.

Europe Queens started on the Axis side and begun the round well as Poland kot picked himself up 5 quick frags which really set the tone for the early going. It took the Allied side almost 5 minutes before they were able to get near the tank, and thanks to some good medic work from Germany predi, Germany Kevji was able to repair. The Axis continued to play aggressively and with all of their medics pushed up to Russia disQonnect's spawn, they were able to construct the barrier and defend it for another 4 minutes. The aggression was relentless, with Sweden NuggaN and United Kingdom razz spending more time in their opponents spawn than their own. Russia disQonnect never looked likely to set a time and the end result was indeed a fullhold.

Modern Warfare 3 and eSports?

image: mw3_545

MLG conducted an interview with with Brett Robins, the creative director at Sledge Hammer games, to find out about the developers slant on the game and its future possibly in MLG itself. Interpreting the answers in a cynical eSports fashion as one might, the name might have changed but its business as usual for Activision and their neglect of eSports.

The interview starts positively with Robins stating that eSports and competitive gaming will one day go mainstream "I think it’s going to happen here. With the multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3, it’s going to blow up because the multiplayer is so good this time around." However as you can see in the quote below, that doesn't mean they've actually done anything nor are they likely to in terms of eSports;
