Before mPg even was ready and set to go, there was already some controverse on their participation. MPg normally wasn’t picked to participate in this season’s Eurocup, but by coincidence they became the replacement of Younggunz. If it wasn’t that Younggunz folded, this team would have never existed, nor got a claim on this title. mPg wasn’t sure of his spot though, they still had to play a qualifier! In order to be a real ‘member’ of the Eurocup XVI they had to overcome this clan first. Luckily for them they successfully ended this mission with a 4 – 2 score. A small sidenote: mark the fact that cZar (the current EDiT) was invited directly!

From now on it was time for the ‘real deal’.

That real deal started on Sunday 14 October at 20.30 CET. They had their first match versus GMPO. This sure would be a rough battle, but the odds were slightly in favour of mPg. With 56% - 44% this would promise to be a tight battle. A shame there was no report found of this match, and I cannot recall the facts that happened, that is why I will leave you only with a score: mPg won with a four to zero victory.

Next on was their match against Incomplete. Inc. is a team with a full Finnish line-up, and includes many known names. On paper, this was an easy go-getter, Incomplete barely stood a chance if we look at the odds, which were generated for this match. That’s also what happened in reality, mPg had enough with two maps (goldrush and frostbite) to gain yet another win in this Eurocup. Maybe mPg was a bit better than expected at first sight, people started to wonder if this German Powerhouse would go for a 3-victory streak, or if they would fall down in their next match.

Although their next match was versus a smaller team named eSuba, which also had to battle its way through with a qualifier, the odds were once more well in favour of this German Powerhouse. And as everyone knows, mPg came out as a winner yet another time. They made a clear win with yet another straight 4 – 0 win.

Would this madness last forever? MPg didn’t have to overcome any real big issues so far, and every game they played was a straight victory for them (excluding their qualifier, in which they lost one map versus hMg). After 3 matchweeks it still didn’t seem over for them. In their first match they overcame the possible groupswinner, in their second match they battled yet another clan which made a claim on this winning position. But eventually none of both claimers came out on top, it was the unexpected mPg which did! Now we were heading straight on towards the playoff-stages.

For a first time EDiT and mPg would meet on the battlefield. Clanbase speculants gave this match a 70 – 30 odd in favour of mPg. To everyone it seemed as if this German Giant would overcome their next prey without any big problems. No one really expected this match to be a real hard one, but nothing was less true. It would take three goddam long maps before the eventual winner of this duel was known. It was nobody less than the German powerhouse! They enlarged their winningstreak by 4 wins on a row, but this time with a less easy one. For the first time in 4 matches they lost one map to another team! Also note the fact, that mPg added a player during this playoff stage! aCoZz would pick up the rifle for mPg, and he surely would do well!

Next on was Cortana. This was yet another “wam-bam-thank-you-old-lady”- case. An entire matchreport on this game can be found here: http://clanbase.ggl.com/news_league.php?nid=273362&lid=5294. A short conlusion on this map is the fact that Cortana wasn’t really an equally skilled opponent for mPg, and they also got played and sent to the losersbracket. This mPg was heading straight on to a total domination of this Eurocup!

The ultimate test would be the Semi-final match, in which they had to face an other well known powerline-up. This time it would be versus Impact, and one hell of a game it was. Though it was a short game with a 4 – 0 win for pro, this was a very tight match, in which tensions were remarkably high! A lot was on stake, and the first map ended with few time left on the clock! The second map was the potential winning map for pro and, by gaining a victory on here they would confirm their spot in the Grand Final of this Eurocup. That is what they did as well, in only a time of approx. six minutes they were able to beat Impact, and ensure their way to glory! A full report can be found here:

Meanwhile a fiercome battle was ruling on in the Losersbracket. EDiT overcame every enemy it faced, and with the addition of mAus, they could also grab an easy victory over Impact. We were heading towards the final with full-speed now. The ‘moment suprème’ would take place on Sunday 16th December. Both teams now were in the possession of two of ET’s finest aimers. On the EDiT side we had mAus, whilst mPg had butchji in their line-up. What the outcome would be of this match, it was a promise that this game would bring much firework!
Both teams were quite nervous (who wouldn’t be in a Grand Final?!), and we could see that in their gameplay. But after some while, the game really exploded, and headshots and multifrags were the result of that. Both teams were equal to one another, and we could also see that in the times that were set! EDiT attacked with a rather good time, whilst mPg still was able to beat them on goldrush with only 2 mere seconds left on the clock! The second map we could see tensions rise once more! EDiT had to defend their controls in order to be able to proceed to be able to still give a throw at the title of champion! I, myself, was biting my nails off while seeing this map. Eventually EDiT made this one in a very tight match! We were heading off to a decider, which was picked by elimination, and it turned out to be supply! Here we could see EDiT’s supremacy! They were used to playing this map, and they showed that with pleasure! They earned a clear victory when they drove off with the truck with still having 2 minutes left on the stopwatch! We were having a Golden Grand Final.. (a full matchreport on the second match can be found here: http://clanbase.ggl.com/news_league.php?nid=276048&lid=5294)

I’ve checked some history books (read: asked Bartichello), and they could tell me that this has only happened twice! It was parodia vs u96d who also managed to get 2 finals out of it! For those who don’t know the rule: you have to lose twice in order to lose your title. mPg hadn’t lost one match so far, so they were given another chance to prove themselves worthy of having the title! The second Grand Final would be held on Tuesday 18th December!
