RESULT: Europe Junk52 4-2 Europe TLR

TLR come into the game as the higher seed and are fresh from their 4-2 victory over Dignitas. In earnest it should have been 4-0 and it is that fact that speaks so well for TLR. Right now their flair players are in the form of their lives and the squad is brimming with talent. After winning the CPC the side have kept their good form and taken it online, however there is ONE blemmish on that record and that is their opponents!

Junk52 beat TLR in the group stages with a resounding 4-0 drubbing of their opponents. Junk52 have infact not dropped a map in the entire tournament, including a 4-0 beating of Cadre. They are the form team, they are an unknown element who can realistically harbour hopes of winning Eurocup despite entering the tournament outside the top 4 seeds. The team haven't been seen for 2 weeks after some real life commitments, but you can bet they'll be back with a bang tonight

The two sides played eachother twice within a month not and both teams took a win each. That should be just the measure for how close this game is going to be! I caught up with the teams ahead of the match:

WSVG is smoking!

image: 55_bigThe WSVG have today announced that smoke grenades will be in the ruleset for the CoD2 tournament in Dallas. Smoke grenades had been removed from most European competitions since the shGopen in February. 32 teams will be battling it out for the games biggest prizepurse to date and anticipation is reaching fever pitch.

The tournament will be played with Max Rounds 12 on the usual competition standard maps of carentan, matmata, dawnville, burgundy and toujane. The tournament will be layed out with 32 teams playing in 8 groups of 4, each side will play eachother once. Teams will be forced adhere to communication restrictions that come into effect as soon you die.

In other WSVG news the show has today signed another deal with American broadcaster CBS, to show highlights of 4 events from the series
QuoteThe World Series of Video Games have renewed their relationship with broadcaster CBS by inking a new deal that will put four hours of extensive footage from this year's WSVG major circuits into the homes of more than 100 million people across the United States alone.

Dignitas win on a bash!

In what can only be described as one of the greatest Call of Duty finals ever Dignitas have beaten team eSource on one of the most controversial decisions in the games history! It is non other than the grand final of the Intel Core 2 Extreme grand finals, and it was unforgetable!

After an absolutely beautiful game where Team eSource who were effectively playing with 4 players (Anarchy playing from the USA, who didnt frag for 17 rounds) the underdogs forced the pace with Dignitas. They went into the half with a 6-4 lead and despite being pegged back to 6-6 went back into the lead and were just 1 round away from victory when pulled back by the experienced Dignitas. Trainee was the one shining light in a game that was being dominated by te's Allan and Wolv. If you're looking for a man of the match, look no further than Wolv and Allan these two were beyond sexy.

The game went to overtime and Dignitas were again under the gun with eSource winning the first half 2-1. It was Mick who had been average at best throughout the game, coming up with big with some clutch moves to claw Dignitas back. If it werent for Dignitas lenghtly experience the game would have slipped away from them but it didnt and they tied the game in overtime.

Then after just one overtime the rules came into play and the two sides BASHED for £750. Yes, £750 seperates 1st place from 2nd place and Dignitas won the bash. This a decision that for a grand final has shocked the CoD scene to its core. For dignitas it smooths over the cracks of a performance not fit for WSVG, where the side are headed next month.

The debate will rage on as Dignitas and eSource were seperated by a decision without precident and an dismal ending to one of the best online finals ever.

TeK-9 announce OOF2!

image: oof2

Gaming organisation TeK-9 have today confirmed the announcement of their second event, the Outpost on Fire 2! Last years OOF saw german side Speedlink take 1st place over Dignitas in a thrilling grand final. This year however the grand final will be the show piece of a total 10,000 euro event!

Quote by TeK-9 dfbToday we announce the second edition of our very own LAN party: Outpost on Fire. The second edition will be from the 27th of July till the 29th in Antwerp, Belgium. In the heart of Europe, teams will battle it out to see who the strongest team of Europe really is. For this edition we are learning from our mistakes of last time so some changes will be made. The tournament structure will have more time between matches, the tournament area will be ventilated better and we will help everyone to find the right hotel/hostel to name just a few. But let's not forget the great things that happened last event which made it one of the most interesting and fun tournaments for the Call of Duty community.

If we want this to be a bigger and better event we also have to announce some other changes. The prize purse will be increased from 6 750 € last time to 10 000 € minimum this time. 4 000 € will be hard cash (increase of 1 250 €) and the hardware part will be 6 000 € (increase of 2 000 €). We are still talking to several other media partners to make this event a media bomb which should make team sponsors really happy.

For more information and to signup to the event head on over to TeK-9's LAN Site!

TLR and Dignitas face off in EC

The dust may have only just settled on Winghavens 4 man support fire that cleared out Dignitas at CPC2 yet the two sides will battle one another once again in what promises to be an absolute classic Eurocup match.

Dignitas head into the match as the underdogs when looking at the form guide. They laboured to victory over Impact in a game that could have gone either way, however now back in action with their original 6. The side that hadnt lost a 6on6 match for 14 months have now lost 3 in 4 weeks, with Insignia Cadre the last team to pickup points against these gods in the group stages. Since losing to TLR at CPC, Dignitas' air of invulnerability has been washed away and that has hurt them greatly in any attempts to recover.

The Last Resort will look to their flair players in Winghaven and Maus to guide them through these rough waters. They havent quite found their invulnerability shield just yet having lost to Polar in the group stages of the cup. They however coasted to victory at CPC2 and its that which makes them favourites for the tie. For dAv1d and Acozz it will be a chance to rid the memories of Northern Darkness' loss to Idle in Eurocup XIII.

TLR are young and hungry, Dignitas are old and may have lost their appetite and it makes for what should be a cracking match, here is what the players think:

Quote by Dignitas UrtierThe game against TLR will be one of the hardest games we have played in the last few months. We have to give our very best and even a bit more to beat this team that has been pracing a lot lately. We have some inactivity problems atm caused by some school stuff. Both teams showed some weak points losing a group game. This match can go either way, probably depends on the day and a lot on the maps. The CPC result does not bother us anymore, it's a new day and a new match. We will give our very best, let's see if it's enough.

Quote by TLR ClownWell, we are feeling pretty confident about ourselves just like on lan... People were nervous but we knew we have to win, there was no freaking way i would go back to bungalows as a loser :D This time it's similar. Yes, it's dignitas who we face, yes, you cant be too happy facing them, but what's gotta be done is gotta be done :) And i hope tomorrow we can do it!

Miss it and miss out!

zeroPoint remove ET division

Swedish Gaming organisation zeroPoint have today removed their ET division. zP can lay claim to great fame in Day of Defeat amongst other games have taken the action to remove their ET division amidst the ongoing cheat scandal. The side placed second at the shGopen and Clanbase Eurocup XIV, but had recently gone through a transition of losing their three Austrian players and were embaressed at CPC2 not escaping the group stages.

Owner of zeroPoint Sweden Apax had this to say:

Quote by ApaxThere were several reasons behind why I decided to remove the Enemy Territory team from zP!. One of them being the fact that keran and shy were involved in cheating related matters. During the three years I've been a part of zeroPoint! Gaming we have NEVER been involved in something like this and thought I never would. I'm really disappointed in the way they acted. We are against cheating and won't tolerate nor support any players choosing this way.

But that was not the only reason. Another is the fact that it's not the same team as once was recruited to zP! with only two of the original six members still playing. The many roster changes during the past few months, less stable results and that the Austrian trio called it a day played a big part in our decision.

The scandal regarding Keran and _shy remains as the side battle it out against Impact tonight in the Eurocup knockout stages. This scandal remains unresolved however Clanbase ET Cheat cheif United Kingdom Bulld0g is on the case, and is quoted as saying on gamestv.org

QuoteHopefully Keran and Shy's bans will be through by then! doubt it though, if I were a betting man I'd say 90% Yes 10% No (for them getting banned)

The side are currently in action against Impact Gaming and should they beat them with players who are "90%" likely of receiving a ban, there are likely to be some tough decisions to be made down at Clanbase HQ!

WSVG Goes to LA

The World Series of video games has cancelled their event in Orlando which featured Call of Duty 2 and replaced it with an event later on in the calendar in Los Angeles California.

To be held at the LA Convention center from October 18th to the 21st the event will coinside with the new E4ALL event supposedly replacing E3. The LA convention center, situated right next to the Staples center is one big convention hall that has housed E3 for the past years, whilst its not quite Florida, its still something to behold. Heres some of the press release:

QuoteWe originally set up the Orlando event to accommodate demand from East Coast and European gamers and understand that making the trek to LA is a bigger commitment. It is our belief that the sheer size and magnitude of the E4All event will make up for the extended travel time! Hurry up and book your flights, it will be well worth it. And for those of you who can't make the trip, we've got something in the works for the East Coast as well.

Oh and one last thing. Those of you planning to make the trip to WSVG Orlando for CoD2 – We’ve got you covered. WSVG Los Angeles will feature a 32 team Call of Duty 2 tournament!

Dataparty Moved

image: dparty_cancelled_410Dataparty, which promised to be one of the final warmups prior to the two WSVG's this summer has been moved to August now, and comes as the second Swedish event to postpone.

Despite having a prizepot of 5,000 Euros for Call of Duty 2 the event was unable to sell enough tickets to make the event viable. Its regular ticket price was quite high, despite reductions for competing Call of Duty competitors. The summer edition of Wonderbase has been postponed also, and with the autum edition supposedly set for a large Call of Duty prizepool, Sweden could host Europes finest in consecutive months.

Provisionally the event is rescheduled for the 17th-19th of August.

The Call of Duty LAN Calendar is still relatively busy, with $50,000 between the two WSVG events in Dallas (July 5-8) and Orlando (August 23-26). TeK-9's second Out Post on Fire offering is sandwiched in between them, aswell as Dataparty, Wonderbase and Clanbase Eurocup XV scheduled for the end of the summmer, and potentially CPC3 in the Autumn.

Intel Core 2 Extreme Challenge Incoming

image: 545x90

The Intel Core 2 Extreme Challenge continues tonight as Rhine takes center stage in round one of the knockouts. Theres a great to play for as Rhine will test teams who perhaps may not be best prepared on a map that has had the dust blown off it!

Probably the two most exciting games tonight will be i30 3rd placed, team eSource taking on SPRD, and Dignitas taking on asperity.gg, they will both be covered by djWHEAT and TosspoT of Inside the Game.

With several big names still in the tournament, every game counts. The likes of Dignitas, uMu and eSource will of course be the favourites, but there are plenty of teams that can cause an upset given the chance. You can find out more on the hub website:
