Quakecon to feature Wolfestein News

ID Software today confirmed to IGN that there would be more news released regarding the upcoming Wolfenstein title at this years Quakecon. Whilst talking at great length about their new texture platform and game engine there were snippets of interest for the Crossfire player in this interview:

QuoteIGN: How is Wolfenstein coming along?

Tim Willits: Kevin Cloud could probably answer this a tiny bit better but as you know Raven are a AAA company. We've tried to do things in the game that is different from Return to Castle Wolfenstein, that expands the Wolfenstein universe and adds some play variety. Gamers nowadays want more, they want broader, they want wider choices and we're really trying to, without saying too much, make the game different and make something that people haven't played before on id technology.

IGN: Do you know when the first time that you'll be showing this publicly?

Tim Willits: Well we'll have more to talk about at QuakeCon but I can't tell you exactly. It's a long ways out. It's not as much my thing so I'm not too sure what the exact plans are for QuakeCon.

WSVG explains live streaming

The World Series of Video Games has moved to explain the lack of live coverage for the Dallas event, highlighting their efforts and love for the game whilst openly stating that they are looking for a solution.

QuoteWe love Call of Duty 2. I repeat. We LOVE Call of Duty 2. The tournament this weekend showcased the great teamplay that we expected from one of the best communities out there. Tons of great matches took place and the players were all first class! Unfortunately, no one outside of the event was able to witness any of it.

There were many complaints about the lack of CoD2 coverage, and we at the WSVG agree with you 100%. Because of the immense support shown by the CoD2 community, we sought out to properly cover the event and give back to those who make our events possible.

Our first attempt was to work with EGLN, who offered to fly two broadcasters down to Dallas on the condition that we provide bandwidth (2 megabits) and space to setup. Done! Fast forward to less than a week before the event and we now hear that EGLN’s main casters have left the company and would like for us to provide them with flights and hotel rooms. Done! Unfortunately, the late notice meant that the two casters could not take work off and we were left without a solution.

Enter eSportsTV. We were approached by the company and they offered to stream ALL of CoD2 as well as the Quake 4 matches that weren’t covered on our live stream. In exchange, we would provide them with hotel rooms, laptops, bandwidth (2 megabts), and space. Done! After signing a contract, we saw no stream from the eSportsTV staff who were on site with video cameras. Instead, they posted two VoD’s. Color us disappointed.

Thus is the saga of our attempts at Call of Duty 2 coverage. We humbly apologize to everyone in the community that wanted to see their favorite players duke it out on LAN. It is not normally our policy to air our dirty laundry, but we can honestly say that we made every effort possible to broadcast this event.

If anyone has ideas for live video coverage of Call of Duty 2 at future events, please post in our Call of Duty 2 forums!

Winner : Europe TeK-9

Day 2 came with no major surprises for European fans, Dignitas looked fantastic whilst picking up their victory and TeK-9 were equally dominant. However TeK-9's next opponents, Speedlink dropped 7 rounds on their way to victory over Pure, who credit to them were a tougher opponent than the other two europeans had. As mentioned that sets up the first all European tie between Speedlink and TeK-9 on Carentan. Digntias take on .50 who defeated highseeded canadians, flow gaming. Flow had a very bad day infact coming close to elimination in the loser bracket, needing overtime to save them.

Gotfrag's Ireland crow actually had this to say:
This has been a great weekend for Call of Duty 2 and, in my opinion, the North American and European CoD2 communities are the real winners, as cheesy as that sounds! Full credit to Tek-9 though, the difficulty of going to a foreign continent and having to perform cannot be overstated. The whole team - and Steven too of course - really deserve this. They have taken some slack lately but I think the pressure is definitely now on Logitech and Serious to show they are still on the same level.

Quakewars Open Beta launches in Style

If anyone thought that ET:Quakewars might slip off the radar or not fill its beta spots, they were well and truly shot down tonight as the ET:Quakewars Open beta began with 3000 user bang. That is to say, 3000 beta keys were registered within the first five minutes of the open beta going live!

3 hours later and more than 15,000 more people had crushed fileplanet in their attempt to get their hands on a precious ET:Quakewars Key. Fileplanet, one of the web's leading download sites was pummeled by anxious gamers and eventually brought down to its knees, buckeling under the pressure before resurfacing.

Anxious players filled the game to its capacity. The initial 3048 server slots available to the public filled quickly, and the European servers were left full instantly with slots spare only across the pond in America and Australia.

Here on Crossfire, the day of the release of the beta slots has seen a little under 200 new Journals of varying opinion on the game, and those united in their complaint about the hit detection will rejoice in the news that SplashDamage have publically stated there will be a patch for the open beta in the week.

In addition, the ET:Quakewars Forum section is open you can put threads in it rather than journals should you chose, Here

TLR pickup Coming Soon!

image: TLRClanThe Last Resort have today announced the pickup of their latest squad. They've added up and coming french side, "Coming Soon" as their Call of Duty division. Team Manager Jean-François "DSP" Zielinski gave the following statement:
Quote by DSPWe are very proud to join an organization such as The Last Resort. Uszat does CPC2

The newest GGLTV LANtics episode covers interviews done with two fascinating Call of Duty 2 players at the Crossfire Prizefight Challenge 2 in Enschede, Holland. One of them Serious Gaming's Netherlands Niels van Steenbergen and the other is Oxid's Sweden Rickard Intveld.

The spicy detail is that both of those players have the same nickname... Zem. It's very easy to get confused with those CoD2 players, especially for Poland Uszat. See for yourselves right over here.
