glitz eSports to be TAG'd?

It's the second day of September and the sexy señoritas are but a distant memory as autumn creeps in, bringing shorter days the banality of school and drab weather - but it's not all bad, this marks the beginning of the Fall season! Tonight we see everyones favourite ex-mix team TAG take on a glitz eSports team packing some Finnish power.

Though despite the famous name, TAG Netherlands Hope is confident of victory "1 to 5 would be my odds" he boasted. Though this optimism is not without reason, they've been putting in the hours and aim to achieve "we're playing 5 times a week, top 3 should be very well possible - personally I think we've got a good bracket to reach the final".

Will TAGs confidence pay dividends in their opening encounter of the tournament, or will they crash and burn at the first hurdle? Tune in tonight!

YourStation interviews Chris!

image: jacb4k

The Polish eSports service and radio station, called #YourStation, presents an interview with Wolfpro developer Chris from United Kingdom Great Britain. The interview was orginally posted on the Polish site www.YourStation.pl. Hope you enjoy it.

United Kingdom Chris is the guy that makes maps to ET and ET:QW since 6 years. In this interview that can be found below you get to know such things as his main target with work on Wolfpro. You can also get to know what changes Chris and co. are about to make and also something about maps to Wolfenstein that will be made by them.

Hello Chris. Please introduce yourself, since not all players know who are you and how are you connected with e-sports and certainly the wolfpro project.

I myself have been making maps on and off for around 6 years now in both W:ET and ET:QW and also playing those games competitively for just as long, at Wolfpro I’m mainly around to deal with any map related changes such as the objectives or graphical tweaks.

The video also shows a new feature for console gamers that allows the host to quit the game, where the match is then paused and passed onto another player resuming to its exact state.

Modern Warfare 2 will be released worldwide on November 10th, 2009 on the PC, 360 and PS3.

Wolfenstein 5on5 Cup

image: cupbnr

Hello & welcome to the 1st edition of this Wolfenstein cup.

It's been a while since there's been any sort of cup in the Wolfenstein scene so together with Sui & FimS, I have decided to create this 1st season.

To compete in this cup, you need a working copy of Wolfenstein for the PC, a team, WolfPro & sportsmanship.

The cup will begin at 20:00 CET on Wednesday 2nd September 2009. We're aiming for 32 teams, if not, then 16. It's single elimination. There will be 1 map per round & the maps will be played in this order:
  • Round 1: mp_manor (20:00 CET)
  • Round 2: mp_bank (20:30 CET)
  • Round 3: mp_hospital (21:00 CET)
  • Round 4: mp_tesla* (21:30 CET)
  • Round 5: Each team will pick a map from the maplist (22:30 CET)
* If mp_tesla is causing crashes on any of your players' PCs, then let a cup admin know & mp_canals will be played instead

There will be prizes!

SteelSeries ET Challenge Cup Started

image: 7b4z6pr2nvdzdryp7nf2

The seedings have been locked and the SteelSeries ET Challenge Cup has now officially begun. The first round of matches must be completed by the end of Thursday the 3rd of September. Please contact the administrators of this cup, either starzi (Jonathan Anastasi) or myself (eyjohn) as soon as possible.

We will be testing the new Tournament Panel system within this tournament (link also available via the menu on the right for any one that is logged in). This system has been designed to both aid the admins and players in running a successful tournament with the least amount of work. This feature is still in the preliminary stages of development (by me) so if you have any comments or suggestions for this section, feel free to drop me a PM. The next few paragraphs will explain how to use the system to arrange and play your matches.

Lay-offs hit Wolfenstein SP developer

The curse that is Wolfenstein continues as Activision have today announced cuts between 30 and 56 jobs out of the original 160 headed staff at Raven Software, the developers of the Wolfenstein single player campaign.

Raven Software was founded in 1990 and was later acquired by Activision. The Middleton, Wisconsin based studio has had a close development relation with id Software, having worked on various games with id Software as producer and also by having used various iterations of id's game engines.

Wolfenstein was the most recent game released by Raven, with sources from Kotaku reporting that the game went over-budget and is under-performing is one of the main reasons behind the layoffs. The company is currently working on UE3 powered Singularity , which was recently pushed back to spring 2010 to avoid a clash with Activision's sixth entry into its number one shooter franchise Call of Duty.

MW2 - Leaked Footage & Info

image: mw2bToday is one huge MW2 leak-fest it seems. Portions of the October PSM3 magazine (PS3 gaming mag from the UK), specifically the article Shock and Awe have hit the CoD forums bringing with it new information about the game.

CanadaRob Bowling (Director of Communications / Community Manager) provides an explanation of the customizable killstreak, from the article: ...You can have a three killstreak or a fifteen killstreak if you want, so something like the AC-130 is one of the highest killstreaks you can select."

Therefore, you can choose your killstreak reward! Noobie players might not want to set killstreak awards so high, as they might not ever get them. Instead, they can set smaller killstreak targets, leaving the better players with the ability to achieve more powerful rewards for uber-fragging.
