Crossfire Map contest Announced

image: Atlanta_map_thThe life of a map maker is a hard one at best. Much time invested, little credit rewarded! Think of the thousands of maps that come and go without an eyebrow raised, they're in custom map heaven now, and we at crossfire would like to add to the population of custom map heaven!

With the upcoming Crossfire Lan 2 scheduled for April 13/14/15, we've decided to host a map competition for both ET & CoD2, with the winning maps included in the 5 map pool at the lan finals and the winning map designers taking home over 100 euros worth of SteelSeries products.

The schedule is as follows, maps final entry date is Sunday March 11, with exhibitional matches during the week and competing teams needing to test the map as each clan leader will vote for the winning map which will be announced ten days later on Wednesday 21 March.

ID Talk Quakecon and Wolfenstein

image: Return_to_castle_wolfenstein_boxIn what has been a busy week for ID, winning an emmy was not enough! Nope, ID head's and gaming legends John Carmack and Todd Hollenshead have talked about all things ID Software in a lengthy interview with GameInformer.

As usual these two have not given us a whole lot of information to work with, but for any MP40 baring soldier there are two words you want to know about, Wolfestein and Quakecon, fortunately in this interview ID Software have re-confirmed both of them.

Quote by HollensheadOne of the things we’re working on now, although the rights are currently all back with us,with Wolfenstein in development there’s interest in a Wolfenstein movie. And Sony had the rights for a while and those recently expired and came back to us.

Quote by HollensheadI don’t know if I’m supposed to say this or not, but the Anatole [the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas], that’s where QuakeCon is going to be for the next two years. We’ve entered a two-year deal with them. Last year’s QuakeCon, I think it ended up working out a whole lot better than I thought it was going to be, given the last-minute nature of the way things came together.

There are various Quakewars tidbits from a developers standpoint, but its always good to see the Wolfenstein name branded about by ID software and reconfirming our dreams of the next series. As for Quakecon and the Anatole? If you read on in the article he goes on to talk about the problems with the previous venue, the Gaylord and its gotta be said these are absolutely spot on. The Hilton Anatole was a far superior venue for Quakecon and its good see it'll be there for the next two years.

Eurocup back with a bang!

Eurocup is back in action once again and the big guns are out, tonight we will relegate some of the biggest names in the competition to the loser bracket and that might just mean the untouchable idle aswell.

To warm us up on this cold winter eve will be sFx taking on CDAP. sFx came in second place behind idle in their group and that was only after a decider tournament, nothing too thrilling. On the flipside, CDAP came through against feirce opposition in the shape of aMenti to take first place in their group, but memories of their 4-2 defeat to 141 will haunt them as they bid for success. CDAP will undoubtly be favourites for this match, one of only three teams to beat idle in 2006 will want to kick off 2007 with a bang.

However, just when you thought it was safe to go outside again Idle return to action against an aMenti side who have risen above expectations to now harbour a realistic chance of hurting the estonians. aMenti who had 2 weeks written all over them have aged like a fine wine to qualify from their group, all be it in second place. All 12 players in this match featured in the Allstar tournament over christmas and that should serve as a hint as to the importance of this match. Perhaps there never has been a better time to play idle? Shortly after the christmas break and potentially with their minds on other things, who knows, just be sure not to miss it!

Crossfire GameplayHD Feature

image: qcon2006046Throughout Quakecon 2006 GameplayHD were filming in and around the event and whilst Quake was their primary focus they took time out to film this feature about the Crossfire team that attended.

They filmed a five minute clip that caught some of the spirit of the team from the players to the managers and although this piece isnt a fragmovie, it certainly does give you just a hint of what it feels like to play in such an event and see players in enviroments you just wouldnt normally experience.

Potter of the Crossfire team had this to say;

Quote by potterIt was really nice to have the cameras on us, not only did we have Rich for the Crossfire stuff but we also had the Gamplay guys. We spent a long time with them doing interviews and stuff and it just added to what was a really great trip for me.

Speedlink bow out of Eurocup

image: logo_bggreyThe Speedlink side who won Eurocup X and XII have bowed out of Eurocup IV after the loss of former Check6 player L-King. Rather than replacing L-King the side have decided that they will break from CoD2 and the Eurocup with the goal of rebuilding the side in the not too distant future. Trigger had stated here on Crossfire back in November that the side were unsure as to their future, and its good to hear that do still intend on having a future.

Quote by Speedlink TriggerToday we have to announce that L-KiNG and Team-Speedlink will part ways. After more then 6 month now with a stable line-up and L-KiNG playing for Team-Speedlink, he decided to continue playing CoD2 with another team. Its sad to loose a player like him, but since he didnt really have faith in the team anymore and thought he would work out better in another new team, we just couldnt hold him. With this step our line-up will currently include only 4 active players. We had several discussions within our team and decided to leave the Eurocup, any other league (Clanbase, ESL, ...) and will going inactive as a team. We WILL be back, thats the only thing we can tell right now. During the next 2 months we will try our best to complete our lineup again, starting it all over and try to attend the upcoming 4 LAN-Events with a new lineup. Of course we will look out for new members, but we will keep it germanonly and also invite only. We wish L-KiNG all the best with his new team and furthermore in his life."

The finalists of the Crossfire lan will be back, and they seem to be making the most in the current lul in lan events. However if they intend to return for the 5,000 Euro sHgopen they'll need to be efficient as only Germans can in their preperation.

West win the Allstars!

image: euallstars1jpgIn a phenominal turn around the West side captained by Germany urtier have claimed victory in the Allstars for the first time! After it became apparent that North were not going to pick up a third successive title, it was anyones guess who would take home the gold but until the final match it was South's to lose.

South went into their last game needing just one map against East who had lost against west and dropped a map to North. Surely this was an easy task? Well, true to history there was a revolution in the east, this time Night was dropped as Kot assumed control of the team. It was talismanic performances from individuals who saved the tournament for the West, with Reload handing the title to his idle teammates from the West.

Adlernest was fast and furios as ever with a 2 minute time set by South and the title seeming heading to Malta, but it was not to be as Reload rose to the occasion through the pressure piled on him by the south players and the time was beaten against all odds!
Still fighting against the odds the South were resolute in their defence holding out on Radar for 9 and a half minutes after some shoddy attacking from East. But true to their convictions east picked up the win with phenominal defending and held the South to just one touch of the West parts.

The final table looks like this: (Rounds For/Against)

- West 8 4
- South 8 6
- East 6 8
4th - North 6 10

West 4-0 East

South home in on famous victory!

image: euallstars1jpgThe region that had just 5% backing at the start of the tournament are now homing on a famous victory in the Crossfire EUallstar tournament, one that will bring never before seen gaming glory to their nations.

The nights early running was set by the West who in a stunningly close match defeated the East. It was to be the battle of idle as former Junk52 and u96d stars were seperated once again, however it was to be junk52 who could claim victory here unlike their Arctic eSports challenge adventures some 24 months ago. The west side always looked capable of rising to the challenge of east, however they were made to sweat as East were just 10 seconds off the pace on Goldrush and 40 on Radar.

North put in a spirited performance against South in the second match. The North side was always to be in the shadow of the two previous Northern rosters that had taken gold and they were exposed on Goldrush. However a thrilling radar that went from end to end was taken by the North and it needed adlernest for South to push on to victory.

The two unbeaten sides went head to head as West made a stunning 6 roster changes and South made just one. An inspirational captains performance by Winghaven saw the West well and truly beaten in particular on Supply depot. Supply's shortcomings for spectators was exposed again, and the map has now been removed from day 2's map pool for "Public safety" under section 22 of the Crossfire Boredom Code (CBC).

Saturdays action see's East in a must win game against the North which could set us up for a thrilling final against the South. Follow the whole nights entertainment once again on iTG & GamesTV
