QWL Live Tonight - Venatio vs bioXar

image: QWLBanner

Tonight sees the final first round match of the Quake Wars League tournament. This an event that's embraced the vanilla gameplay, sticking to what SD subscribe.

Though picked to be broadcast across the interwebs by both tgbf and Game-TV many are predicting a white wash for bioXar, including the Venatio members " we are a new team, just started last Saturday" explains Venatio Kotirambo, "so I think they're gona win". But that doesn't dampen his enthusiasm for the game "everybody is fighting for their place, we have members from the old venatio.bf2 clan and brekdown bf.2 clan so there's lots of competition".

With bioXar entering as tentative favourites the sensible moneys on them, having pulled off an impressive win over DEFAULT by two rounds to one in their opening ClanBase ET:QW qualifier last night.

I caught up with bioXar caliban for a more conventional Q&A

Can you beat Venatio?

I hope so. Yesterday we had a match like a final, it was really exciting - lasted 2 hours, a really great game. We're ready.

Do you think you're favourites to win the tournament?

I think everyone can beat anyone. The game is in its infancy so every clan with teamplay and brain-using players has the chance. I think even dignitas are beatable....it's just a matter of graphic cards and tactics.

Is this rule set better than the ClanBase?

I think the cb rule set is good for testing, and it's quite exciting to see how teams play without vehicles. I think both settings are good but I would prefer the infantry only thing just a bit. The [ClanBase] mix brings a lot of fun and makes the match even more exciting.

Two clans, only one can progress - will it be bioXar or Venatio? Tune in to find out...

WSVG explains live streaming

The World Series of Video Games has moved to explain the lack of live coverage for the Dallas event, highlighting their efforts and love for the game whilst openly stating that they are looking for a solution.

QuoteWe love Call of Duty 2. I repeat. We LOVE Call of Duty 2. The tournament this weekend showcased the great teamplay that we expected from one of the best communities out there. Tons of great matches took place and the players were all first class! Unfortunately, no one outside of the event was able to witness any of it.

There were many complaints about the lack of CoD2 coverage, and we at the WSVG agree with you 100%. Because of the immense support shown by the CoD2 community, we sought out to properly cover the event and give back to those who make our events possible.

Our first attempt was to work with EGLN, who offered to fly two broadcasters down to Dallas on the condition that we provide bandwidth (2 megabits) and space to setup. Done! Fast forward to less than a week before the event and we now hear that EGLN’s main casters have left the company and would like for us to provide them with flights and hotel rooms. Done! Unfortunately, the late notice meant that the two casters could not take work off and we were left without a solution.

Enter eSportsTV. We were approached by the company and they offered to stream ALL of CoD2 as well as the Quake 4 matches that weren’t covered on our live stream. In exchange, we would provide them with hotel rooms, laptops, bandwidth (2 megabts), and space. Done! After signing a contract, we saw no stream from the eSportsTV staff who were on site with video cameras. Instead, they posted two VoD’s. Color us disappointed.

Thus is the saga of our attempts at Call of Duty 2 coverage. We humbly apologize to everyone in the community that wanted to see their favorite players duke it out on LAN. It is not normally our policy to air our dirty laundry, but we can honestly say that we made every effort possible to broadcast this event.

If anyone has ideas for live video coverage of Call of Duty 2 at future events, please post in our Call of Duty 2 forums!

47 Kicked from 20ID

Following the fallout of WSVG in Dallas, 20ID who went toe-to-toe with the Worlds best for 1st place, have made a sensational roster change.
20ID have decided to release Chris "-47-" Maglio from their line-up. No one can, and ever has, doubted -47-'s skill level or knowledge of the game but he has come in for criticism from large sections of the CoD2 community for his bad attitude, mainly "trash talking" about his skill level and it seems from the outside as though 20ID have had enough - or was it 20ID's decision? Some say 20ID's sponsors did not want to be associated with such a character and thus leant on 20ID to make the cut.
Questions still remain following this stunning news but one thing is for certain - 20ID have shown that they are not prepared to settle for anything less than 1st.
And thus, the search begins for 20ID to find a 5th place starter to fill -47-'s shoes.
Be sure to stay tuned for more news.

ClanBase In A Spin

image: cb_etqw_betacup_banner

True to form ClanBase have made a complete cock up of this competition to date, with yet another complete u-turn in a matter of days. Contradicting their rule change on Sunday, ClanBase will now be using the original format of one stopwatch round with, and one without vehicles. Then Supervisor DuRus explains "We here at ClanBase feel they please both sides, the BF and the ET scene, and they will allow us to see which of the two types plays best."

This leaves clans with three days to resuscitate their no vehicle strategy, for the tournament start date of Wednesday.

For the first SW round we are going to have the following rules.

1.
* All vehicles are allowed except the Tormentor.
* However: only 1 cyclops allowed per team, and 1 Titan tank per team at any one point.

For the second SW round we are going to have the following rules.

2.
* No Cyclops/Desecrator/Titan/APC/Tormentor. Limit of 1 rocket launcher per team.

If needed, 3rd SW round will be played using 1st SW round rules.

The use of any of the prohibited items, on either of the SW rounds will result in an immediate forfeit of that SW round, giving 2 points to the other team.

Thankfully, this tournament is now in more capable hands - as United Kingdom DuRuS steps down making way Crossfire's very own United Kingdom Adacore to become Supervisor, and Netherlands Nuke his coverage supervisor.

And finally, the tournament layout has been released. There will be initial Qualifier Matches which will determine whether teams are placed in the Premier or Second League. Both leagues will consist of 3 groups of 4, and 5 groups of 3.

The groups will be published this Thursday, after completiion of the qualifiers.

ClanBase ET:QW Cup Rule Change

image: cb_etqw_betacup_banner

ClanBase today did a u-turn on their somewhat controversial format for the pending ClanBase ET:QW Beta Cup. In a post on ClanBase tournament supervisor United Kingdom DuRuS states that they will be dropping the non-vehicle format of the competition as at this time they do not wish to make core changes to the gameplay.

This decision leaves some suggesting SplashDamage imposed their influence.

Quote by DuRuSAfter careful consideration and a lot of thought we have decided to not come up with a set of "house" rules. We would much rather keep the game as close to the original version as possible. The exact details of what will be changed will become available shortly, but for now I just wanted to let you know that we are not planning on removing much from the game.

If we find out from this that it doesn't work, and changes need to be made for the real thing, then we will do so when the game comes out. But until then we are going to keep it plain and simple.

Please feel free to keep the feedback coming. And I want to apologise for making these changes, we just feel that the best way of working out what works best is to base it on the original settings.

A full updated ruleset will be posted shortly. Clans are reminded signups close this Sunday, 8th July 24:00 CET.
